Holland&Holland Mauser type action

I wonder if Holland&Holland produce their own Mauser actions for bolt rifles or if they are sub supplied.
They have the classic thumb cut so the design reflects the early Mauser versions.
I am raising the question just to understand what value a customer gets in reality.

I believe they are Prechtl/Golmatic. Kuduae might confirm.

CZ,,go to the holland website and read about the the (375 centenary rifle) on the last page they explain the action as being typical military mauser reworked with new bottom metal ,, in fact most of westley rifles were the same way till lately ,, as far as value i will take a good reworked military mauser over a new mauser all day long ,,i like the thumbcut ...paul

holland does not make cartridges that need a magnum lenght action the 465 holland is just a little shorter than a 375 which they build of military action ....paul

If, as I have, you go to a Holland & Holland gunroom you will see what you get.

99% of people would look at an H&H magazine rifle and see little difference from a CZ. Those who really know what makes a watershed rifle will see it.

CZ, your question as to value is a valid one. In the early days Holland ( and all other English makers) sourced their Mauser action from wherever they could.
Sometimes you will see Original Magnum length actions used, where they could get their hands on them. They bought a lot of Original Mausers, simple for the actions……and as for Rigby, well we know the story there.

Value. Holland magazine rifles, with their high price have alwas left me a bit cold, but remember you pay for the name in this case. Give me an original Mauser for much less Money any day.

In simply terms they understood you cant improve on perfection.

I would not think those 99 percent would be Hollands target market so no harm done there.

probably DWM made actions for the 1909 argentine mauser rifles?

For info, recently overhauled in our workshop, a "Best Quality" rifle, made circa 1965, on an original 1925 Oberndorf Mauser commercial action, under the leadership of Holland & Holland then Managing Director, Malcolm Lyell.
The action retains the original Oberndorf serial number and period German proof marks and is fitted with a Vickers "HiKro" 25” barrel, chambered for the .240 H&H Apex Magnum cartridge.
The original H&H quick detachable scope mount holds now a Swarovski 3-10×42 scope.
Notice also the Canjar single stage trigger with side safety for scope use.
That rifle is extremely well made, much better than anything produced presently under the same London banner...!

Beautiful lines...Exactly my taste...

The only drawback from my perspective is the obscure caliber and I would much more prefer if this particular rifle was chambered for 300 H&H.

What's the story on the stock? Was it originally a left hand bolt action stock?

No John, it originated as a right-hander!
The rifle has undergone a complete overhaul and it sports a miked to .244" bore that shoots extremely accurately with .243" 100 grains bullets.
Even if cartridges are readily available here (and very expensive!), we prefer to make the brass from .240 Wby Mag Norma cases using a set of RCBS forming dies provided by Huttington. With mild loads, ballistic performances are in the same range than the good old 6mm Rem.
