Hi all, the pictured rifle has Cogswell and Harrison Ltd. Bond St & Strand, London on the barrel.
It has a 24.5 inch barrel with folding leaf Express sights from 100, 200,& 300 yds with a long range ladder sight graduated up to 1000 yds. It has a Nitro Proved stamp on the barrel with BV, BP, NP proof stamps with crowns over them.
The charger bridge has a round notch in it to see the all of the sights.
The trigger guard and magazine are engraved as are all of the screws and around the screws.
The front sight is supposedly made out of platinum for high visibility, some of the Lee Speed rifles have this feature as well.
The forend cap is made from black horn and the grip cap is possibly the same material.
A tang safety is present in the photos and works well, the five shot magazine is engraved and the cutoff works perfectly.
The steel buttplate is engraved as is the trap door with engraving around the door as well as the screws being engraved.
The checkering is fine lined and not crushed, the wood appears to be a walnut variety, I'm not positive about which it is, perhaps others can identify the wood.
To top it all off, it's a numbers matching rifle with a very good bore.

PS, a quick email to Skennerton came back with the rifle showing a BSA&Co Patent 28834/97, he said it was made between 1898 and 1903, then he made a plug to buy his book, I think I will, John :}

Very, very nice! Coggies are loved in India where some old rifles still exist, though for some (extremely wrong) reasons, they are not treasured in the US. This great firm could build fine guns that would hold their heads up among the very best from the more storied names. Your Lee Speed proves this point most emphatically.

Thank you Mehulkamdar, is this rifle still a Lee Speed even though it doesn't have the Lee Speed Patent stamp?

I received an email form Cogswell and Harrison this morning about the 303, they said that the records were in the volumes that there were lost in a fire and flood in their Harrow works back in the beginning of the 20th century.
With the absence of the records, they will not have any further information.
I am happy to know that is indeed one of their rifles.

Very very nice rifle. Of all repeters a Lee Speed is one of the few I could find myself buying one day. Ofcouse a Mauser type A in 9,3mm would also fill the bill.

Though I don't want to disturb your excitement about this "Coggy", to me it looks like a top grade Lee-Speed, completely made by BSA, upgraded by BSA with their optional tang safety and BSA standard engraving. IMHO Cogswell& Harrison did nothing in making this rifle, except having their address engraved on the barrel and retailing it.

Just bought a very nice WW I smelly:

It has a walnut stock and was apparently rebuilt in 1947 according to the stamping on the ring between the foreend and buttstock.

Would probably make a great "Lee Speed" but as is, it's a bit rare.

I have done some more research on it, I agree that BSA made the rifle and C&H retailed it as Kuduae has stated.
The weather here is getting nicer and the Speeder will be taken out for a good day at the range. I have been loading ammo waiting for the weather to clear. Thanks to all, John

Great looking rifle you have there, a bit unusual in that it has a Charger Bridge on a full blown top of the line model, I have only seen a couple of these .

Could you do a few more photos with full rifle both sides & a couple of the action both sides, maybe the sights to please ?

Just a little more in focus

The charger bridge was actually offered as an optional extra. I have one with a charger bridge as well, albeit the base model.

Yes I realize that, but how many do you find, very few, I have seen over a hundred now & this one makes 3 !
In the later, mostly non engraved & fancy model yes, but these are not what would be called "Lee Speeds" these are BSA Sportier's, as they nearly all are really !

Like a option was 7X57, but I have never found one, but have seen one in 6.5X53R which was not listed as a option (that I know of ?)

Could we see some pic's of your's to please ?

I will try to get better pics, but I can only do so much with the camera I have. Plus, when I get the pics done, I will need a volunteer to post pics for me as I am a relative newcomer to the computer picture posting.
Natural light seems to work the best, but we have been lacking that of late here on the south end of Vancouver Island, British Columbia.

Lovely rifle, I"ll have to take some photos of mine. It's not as pretty as yours, being only a base model BSA, but does have all of the correct features. Mine has a 10 shot magazine and I am thinking of trying to modify a 10 shot to the more aesthetically pleasing 5shot with rounded belly. I do have a square bottomed 5 shot but it doesn't look right.
