Buffalo Arms has a range of moulds and mould weights in .50 cal. - www.buffaloarms.com and check out their mould blocks.

My brother bought the 600gr. cast mould from them for his Sharps .50/Alaskan - impressive mould, beautiful bullets and 1st time out with it, was making 1 1/2" 5 shot groups at 100meters with black powder loads - aperture sights on the M1874 Sharps. In fairness to him, I should note that some of his groups were 10 shot, with 7 or 8 inside an inch, with a couple 'flyers' opening the group to 1 1/2". VERY accurate and well made moulds.

NitroX,
I had a mate who had a .505 Gibbs in the CZ 550. Both myself & my youngest lad had a go of this rifle & it shot rather well to say the least!
He got a sizing die made up from Lee to size the Woodleigh 440gn SP's down to .505", it was a fair bit of an effort to do so but we got there eventually sizing them down to .505-.506" average. Unfortunately he had an offer to good to refuse so he sold his rifle before we could get these into service.
You would need to size these in a very strong "O" press & make sure the sizer works on the bottom/top of the stroke so that mechanical advantage is greatest.
I found that Hornady case lube in this instance was better than the Lee Alox?
David Commons from CBE has 0.509" cast projectile(s) - guess sizing it down to 0.506" would not be too hard if you wanted cheaper again.

Not my question. It was asked of me, so I thought to ask the question here for the persons benefit. I am not experienced in cast bullet shooting or reloading, but would give it a try myself oneday I think.

NEI makes molds in 506 and 509 and will upsize either.

Best molds I have every used.

There is no reason why you couldn't as long as the rifling is in good condition. The 505 has a long neck which is a plus when using cast bullets. There aren't many bullet designs for the 505 but there are quite a few for normal 50 cals (510) - these could then be sized down in stages. If it were me and I couldn't find a mould of the right size, weight and shape I would either approach someone to make one (like CBE, Accurate Molds, NEI etc) or have my own GC design using the Mountain Molds site.

Another alternative would be to have Paper Patch mould made up and these offer several advantages. Not that you really need any expansion with a 50 cal, but you could use soft lead with PP mould. These moulds (eg like the ones made by CBE) are adjustable for weight, so you get a lot of optionally in the one mould. The other advantage is you don't need gas checks to achieve high velocities.

Once you are set up it would make for pretty cheap practice.
