Double Rifle Regulation at 200m.
      #243179 - 01/03/14 10:39 PM

I've been lurking for a while but lost my account. Finally I've managed to get back on. I've regulated three Blaser double last year for 200m. My own blaser BBF97, my mates BBF97 and my mates S2. All in 9.3x74R, all using 286gr SP.

I always used to think a double rifle was a 100yard proposition but these rifles have changed my opinion and I use them whenever I can. Almost always before I take my blaser R93 out. Anything out to 250m is in serious trouble.

Awesome shooting Chuck and impressive regulation.

I am looking forward to hunting Sambar more this hound season with my SXS Pedersoli 8x57JRS double and I know the feeling that a double rifle quickly becomes the go-to gun in your cabinet.

Thanks for posting.

Nice.

I bought a Chapuis SxS in 7x65r that was supposed to be regulated at 200m with Norma Orynx 156gr loads but my groups so far are double that. It's helpfully to see what others have made possible just to set expectations. Of course maybe you are just a better shot then me aswell!

many people do not realize just how far 200 meters is, and how difficult it might be to get a REALLY small group with a hunting rifle. We see this every year, especially now with the 'instant gratification' crowd buying Ultra Mags (or 7mm Rem Mags) so they can shoot elk at 800yards, just like on Wild TV. When they cannot keep 5 on the page at 100yards, they figure that must be normal and go hunting.

Group sizing at 100 meters, let alone the longer range boils down to equipment, technique and skill.

Chuck's doing really well, especially considering the equipment. I'd bank his 250meter game estimate all the way to the butcher shop.

Yes 200m is a long way with a 4X FFP scope for sure. But of course these doubles are great for running deer at 20 yards as well. I've got a 7x57R/ 12/76 barrel set for it as well and can hit clays with the scope wound back to 1.25X with the circle dot reticle. I also use a aimpoint H1 Micro on the combo barrel set for driven hunts for foxes and its great.

Of the many people that tell me about their half MOA hunting gun, I have yet to see one of them turn up at the club and show me on the 500m range!
