Mozambique 2015?
      #242634 - 18/02/14 02:36 PM

Mozambique in 2015 is 100% happening!

This will be my first Africa dangerous game hunt and the first time in not going to South Africa. I'm a little freaked out over the cost and logistics of a Buff/Elephant//Sable hunt. Although I think I may need a 300 H&H ... I may end up putting the Elephant on hold until 2016.

I went to the SCI show last weekend and narrowed it down to Zambeze Delta Safari or Kambako Safari. My understanding is that Zembeze is mostly wide open flood plains. Kambako is a little denser and hillier. I got good reads off of both outfits and have checked references. Has anyone here hunted with either company?

Definitely ask Ozhunter, he has great experience with Kambako and Mozambique in general, he is a wealth of information.

Very, very jealous!

Mozambique is next on my list, though I can't tell you (or anyone else) when!

Richard Cooke hunts Mozambique. His area is somewhere north and he described it to me as similar to Zambezi valley bush - not coastal grass.

if that is to your preference you may want to inquire with him as well.

Best of luck and I'm looking forward to anticipatory updates prior to your trip and a follow up report with lots of pics!

I sent ozhunter an email, no doubt he will pop in sooner or later.

I too would like to hunt Mozambique in August 2015, for my 50th birthday. Tanzania would be better, but unless the gold flows down the Jackeli won't happen. Mozambique is looking extremely unlikely too, as I'm broke.

One never knows though.

Thanks for reaching out to OZHunter.

I was told Sept and Oct where the best time to hunt. Grass has burnt off, mating season is underway but it is hot.

I probably can't afford the elephant but my truck should last another couple of years, right?

Buff, Sable, Bushbuck, Eland and maybe a elephant. Does anyone know if they have tusk less tags?

Hi Rell,
Sadly no Tuskless and no ivory from Moz permitted into the USA.
I have hunted one of the main buff areas that Zambezi Delta hunts (with the concession holder).
BUT for trophy Buffalo, Sable and Eland I would personally prefer Niassa Reserve hunting areas during the months of late July, August, September and October (have hunted all of these).
The delta would be better during the hot late September, October and into November. This place would be good if you wanted a couple Buff and a Sable.
If I were in your shoes I would (and have) hunt a Tuskless in Zim and then move on to Niassa. That is if you can find extra time off.
If not, Niassa for Buff, Sable, Eland est, then another time for twin Tuskless with someone like Ian Gibson , Andy Hunter, Theiry Labutt or Allan Sheering in the Zambezi Valleys areas such as Sapi, Chewore or Dande areas.

Lugenda River in the hunters paradise of Niassa;

Yes, taken from Kambakos main camp with a beer in hand.
This photo was taken down stream at a fly camp whilst lion where roaring around camp. I think I was telling my Father that he must stay close in camp and keep ones eyes OPEN!
Plenty on lion around Spanish camp..

Wonder how much for a Mbogo and Chui etc. hunt?

Cheers, Chris

Anyone ever hunted with Luambeze in the Niassa? Looks like a very good outfit as well.

Something I might consider myself.

What would be the suggested number of days to book for Niassa?

10 days is the minimum, even for PG only. At least, that was what Jumbo Moore (Kambako Safaris) stated when I inquired a couple years ago.

I seriously considered a Safari with Kambako, but the requirement for a license fee (separate from trophy fee) for each species desired to hunt didn't appeal to me. Whether successful or not (or even if not actively hunted during the safari) there's no refunds on the license fee.

I tried to keep the budget at $20m but it seems to have gotten away from me.

All in with airfare, charter , tips, taxidermy, shipping etc. I think $30m is more realistic.

Buffalo
Sable
Eland
2 Bushbuck

I tried to get an elephant bull tag but all sold out, I'm number 1 on the waiting list. I think that would add another $25m.

Hahaha - I'll be 50 in 2016!

Wonder what the average age is on these forums?
