Exporting a rifle from New Zealand to U.S.?
      #24011 - 13/01/05 08:08 AM

Greetings,
Any members out there having had experiences with the process of selling pre-1898 rifles from New Zealand to U.S.?
U.S. law allows me to have a pre-1898 rifle delivered to my door, but I am not familiar with New Zealand laws concerning such a sale.
I have my eye on a rifle in NZ and in case the seller is hesitant to sell to someone out of NZ, I would like to have the process down to make the transaction easier. Unless it really isn't easy and I need to know?
Thanks in advance,
Joe
in Houston

Can't help with the export part from NZ., but here is a little something to make it even easier to get in the U.S. Just cut and paste and include it with shipping documents presented to U.S. Cusotms

To Inspectors of the Bureau of Customs and Border Protection,

The enclosed firearm/part was manufactured in or prior to 1898 and meets the definition of an antique firearm under Title 18 Chapter 44 section 921 (a) (16) of the Gun Control Act of 1968. For the purposes of importation under Part 47, this firearm is defined as “not a firearm” in Subpart B section 47.11. Part 178 Subpart G 178.115 makes the importation of this firearm an exempt importation. No import license is required.

This firearm is being imported for personal use and is not for resale. This firearm is exempt from duties as an Antique under HTS 9706.0000.60.

BSAJoe,

Don't know about export from NZ but the likelyhood is you would need an export permit.
Get whoever has the gun to check with the local gunshop (if it is a not a dealer).

As the other poster said, as long as it has been indentified as Pre 1898 it shouldgo through US
customs without a problem.

I just sent 3 weeks ago gun to the US by registered mail with a Pre 1898 Declaration and it tunred up on
the person's doorstep !!!

Hope this helps.
