Dumb fat f*ck!!
He had his chance. The buff should have been given its chance.

If he did hit the buff, the spear would have hit high. It also looks like a very young buff. He did draw is revolver very quickly, about the only thing that is more or less impresive in the clip.

Disgusting!

I'm disgusted. If only he'd spent as much time practicing with the spear, as with the pistol. He'd be thinner, for sure :P

How many of you here would be able to draw and down a buff with a handgun as well as he did?
Or have the guts to try and spear a buff? Be fair, at least he does try his products out, which is more can be said for most companies (some gun manufacturers for sure excluded, I know alot love to use their product).

Cheers,
Ash.

Some of you guys are just downright rude and dont know what you are talking about. The OP got it right - yes it was a botched spear throw, but a good attempt. Not everyone agrees with doing it or trying to do it... that's fine. But Lynn is a good man and he does practice, he may not be the best spear throw in the world but he is out there giving it a go.

To call him a 'dumb fat f*ck' is just as weak as piss.

The spear throw would have been perfectly on target ... for a spear throw. Lynn screwed up and the buffalo saw him and blocked the spear. That happens.

We did 20 pages of go-round on this on AR last year. All sorts of accusations... I guess at least I can throw some factual information in there....

The throw looked quite good to me, on target and flat enough, no idea if the force would have been sufficient to penetrate enough, but the "samburu" spears are effective due to their design. He is right in the buffalo raised its head and the spear was deflected by the horn. First handgun shot dropped the young buffalo too, so may have been a brain shot (?).

Edited: I see Matt has posted the same time as me, as I hadn't seen his post until after my post was posted. My post was 100% independent of Matt's .

Probably John, I forget. The same old uninformed crap!!! One AR poster (shall remain nameless) - claimed that I tied one of the bulls to a tree so that it could be speared... he could clearly see the rope in the video!! true...

Same deal with the latest spear hunting video - same group of hunters. Same BS comments on the forums.

You were the one who took him out, Mr Graham? (weird typing that, my dads name is Graham so seeing it as a surname is strange to me). Well done on guiding outside of what i regard as standard! What's he (Mr Thomson), personality wise? Is he like Larry Potterfield, of Midway USA (very polite happy sounding fellow).

You're lucky to live in some of the best parts of Aus. Would like to move up there some day, thinking of out west first though.

Cheers,
Ash.

Personnally, I do respect Mr Thompson for first publishing this video that is in no way an advertising for his company.
Even more, he dared to approach the buff very close at official halitosis distance. Then shit happened but that didn't remove any credit to his attempt. I feel it bad taste to point his heavy weight, after all he is able to come close and to punch his spear..
My goal was to show you how a guy can turn the tables and shoot with an incredibly great skill when he was almost history.
As we say in France "one can dance only with the girls that are present". He did this attempt with a young buffalo, so be it, when spear hunting (as with bow hunting) you can only deal with the animals that you can approach.
I respect Mr. Thompson.
I don't know his outfitter, but for sure it also was a challenge for him.

"Lynn screwed up and the buffalo saw him and blocked the spear. That happens. "

As I was told years ago about Buffalo when in a pen,
throw a box of matches and a buffalo will hit it in
mid air with the end of it's horn.

So not surprising it blocked it.

A good effort I thought, a spear then quick on the revolver how many of us would be that quick or even have a go on a buff with a spear?

Haha, Daryl.
Quick off topic thing, and not to be sexist, but has anyone noticed if you throw with your not dominate hand you "throw like a girl"? Just.. Kinda flops and doesn't work heh.

And I didn't think handguns were legal for hunting, or is that just QLD?

RLI - certainly not me!

The bloke in Africa that spears the fair dinkum Cape buff is a far better video.

Daryl

I disagree. he doesn't throw like a girl,
nothing wrong with his action.

I used to do Javelin and also spear fish
with a hand spear and the way he threw it
gives good accuracy.

Of course Javelin, slightly different in arm up higher.

It isn't a girly throw.

Lynn did not post the video to Youtube - his spear hunting partners did. You are quite right - Lynn was trying to spear the buffalo that was in front of him. It is very difficult to get a spear into any of them.. when you have to be so close.

Yes I am the outfitter. I was not present with Lynn at that time, I was guiding his other spear-hunting friends elsewhere on the concession. But of course we did dissect this episode in detail at camp. I have guiding him myself at different times with the handgun and rifle.

We did 14 days with the spears on this hunt (me with the other guys).

Lynn is a very, very generous guy and a good friend of mine. He's a Super A personality though... takes a bit of wrangling!!

Not in this case, Lynn actually wants to use his own products successfully - but he does know his limitations. He isnt a young man.

With those spears you do not have to throw them hard, just accurately (which he did in this case). The weight of the spear does the work on the target.

Only in the Northern Territory - under very strict conditions.

Same group of people. This time it was Tim Wells. No doubt they learned a lot from their AU trip to get that spear in the Cape buff. The terrain and the animals are very much the same. I was guiding Tim Wells in Australia.
