Examples of all the big name Makers?
      #237308 - 31/10/13 12:11 PM

Hey guys, I've been through all the threads on here and was wondering if it'd be possible to get a picture of the standard styles of all the big name makers of England, Scotland, Europe etc.

Reason being I'm picking up a Hembrug carbine in military config with a shot out barrel. At the moment I'm liking the Gibbs look, but would love to see how H&H and WR did theirs (as well as the other makers). It'll be done into 6.5x53mmR.

Cheers.
PS: anyone know where to get clips, or can carcano clips etc be substituted?

My preference is Jeffery.

Impossibly slim, incredibly elegant, just gorgeous!

Guess I'll have to drag out the camera and add the example in my gunsafe to the photo archive.

Also, I may have a surplus of clips in the new year, if all goes to plan...

Let me know, Marrakai. How much do they weigh in general? Guessing if I go like the Gibbs then a super slim, long barrel is in order.

Thanks for all the pics guys, no cheek pieces on the stocks. Will note that.

So there's Wilkinson, H&H, Jeffery, Gibbs, W&S, any Westley Richards?
They all seem pretty much alike, being either like Jeffery or Gibbs in appearance.

Here are a few of my British big game rifles. All classics.

I should have specified the Mannlicher 93, reading my original post i failed to specify. Guess was relying on the Hembrug part to cover it. Seems to have done well enough, heaps of useful pics to get me thinking.

Anyone know the standard barrel length on a Gibbs rifle?
And that peep site they all seem to have, custom made or a factory part? If so, number etc? Of for one thats close?

Cheers,
Ash.

Well, went and had a look at mine (arrived at smiths, havent sent PTA out yet).

It's still in military config, and is a carbine. Has a shot out barrel, which is fine as i wanted to get a longer one screwed on. Theyre so tiny! Even in military config! Weighs probably 5lb. Would love to have a sporter built like this Gibbs in that weight (4th pic) Am very much looking foward to some day having this done.

Edited to fix image errors

And i will keep all the military stuff in a box, the wood, barrel and sights etc, so if need be it can be resurrected some day to its original self.

Both my G.Gibbs M95 and my G.Gibbs M1900 (already posted above by Lancaster) still have their Steyr factory barrels from the military production. Both barrels are 26" = 66.3 cm long.
