G'day,This knife is only 7 1/4"long with blade3 1/2" x 1/8th
ATS34 Stainless Steel.[Keeps a sharp edge very well]Pro.heat treated to 59-60 Rockwell,so it's tough but OK to sharpen in the field.
Flat grind with convex edge at about 11 degrees.
Handle Green Canvas Micarta [doesn't slip when wet]
Sheath made my way with double hand stitch and half knot.
YES I KNOW. It's a left hander.
$340 and $10 for Postage in Aus.?
Thanks for looking.
Clive

Well maybe a bit more info needed ?

The Canvas Micarta handle maybe looks hard and slippery but when it gets wet the canvas stands and it's like holding onto a piecs of canvas. When it dries it goes back to the way I finished it.It doesn't dent like timber only extreme heat will discolour it.Is a bit heavier than timber though.

The ATS34 Stainless steel I have to buy from America even though it is made in Japan. I have used it on nearly all of my knives [over 10 years] and so far have never had a complaint. It is used in the fans in Jet motors so can withstand heat, cold and impact very well.

I have tried to put enough sweep onto the edge to use for skinning but with enough point to break down the knee joints etc.

The edge is sharp enough to shave the print off Newspaper.

If it doesn't sell here that's OK because I have sold one in Greart Britain as well as a couple in Aus. to Hunters, but it is not just a 'funny looking' play knife.

I would appreciate any comment-----I can take it.

Thanks Fellas

Clive.

I think it looks like a good knife. Like these small pins in the handle. ATS34 is a very good steel.

Taking nothing away from the fit and finish of this knife, for myself I can not really apreciate what to me looks like a short bladed knife - compared to the handle length, that is. It looks unbalanced to my eye, probably as I grew up using the old greenriver style size of knife although I used a more flat backed knife rather than the heavily curved skinner.

After many a make and try over the years I now carry this. It is utility in as much as it is my main field knife for skining and dressing the animal.African blackwood and nickle silver on a mid 19th century tool steel.

Thanks for your comments.

A couple of 'well made' knives there Von Gruff.

I have sold a few like one this over the years and an American Knife maker even asked for and took a copy of the size and shape. Many people like a short blade and a compact knife.

Some blokes like a heavy steel, some light etc.

Clive.

It does seem as if the americans like the short blade quite a bit. I visit the knife forum on 20hr campfire and there are a number of makers who have knives with similar proportions. I think they are more inclined to knife a skin off and use a different knife for other dressing chores, whereas I use the one knife for both skinning and dressing or breaking the animal down. I do like the way you have your handle shapes as it does allow for the reversed hold that many of the finger notched handles make difficult, and the canvas micarta material, apart from the very good looks, especially with the red liners, will give a great bloody handed grip.

I have a couple of Clives knives and they are sharp as and hold a good edge. The skinner I have gets used for more than skinning.
