Do big bore rifle cases need trimming more than little bores?Do the really big bores need trimming everytime they are fired?Do they only last a few times and then have tobe discarded?How much reloading is expected from a big bore case life as a general rule?Medium bores for that matter?Does some brands seem to last a whole lot longer?For instance A-Square?Do you guys only use trim dies and files?
Keep it under a hundred and between the ditches!!

the largest case I have reloaded much for is the .375 H&H and cases last as long as any other case.....and it depends whether I use a scale for powder or a scoop shovel... 
I use a wilson case trimmer and trim them about .015 under the book recommended and try to keep the lengths fairly uniform because I like to crimp these big guys. They don't have to be crimped BTW.
Actually these cases are no different than cases for a .270 or a .22-250.....I trim them about every third shot.
Cases such as the really big ones used in double rifles may in fact be very different being normally straight walled and normally lower pressures.
I hope someone post info about this class of cartridge......excellent question.

My .500 Jeffrey cases last pretty well. I'm currently using 3 different makes, (Sabi, Stewart & Romey). The Sabi & Stewart cases hardly ever need trimming and seemingly go on for ever without failing......the Romey ones need trimming every 3rd or 4th reload and seem to split, stretch or collapse after (+/-) 8 reloads. At the end of day I guess it's all about quality. Of the three makes, I prefer the Stewart products.
Stewart incidentally now makes all my bullets as well and I'm as pleased as punch with them........I even got to design my own profile at no extra cost. I just told him what I wanted and he made me a few variations on the theme and I tested them all and then chose my favourite.

I have had some real problems with cases from Kynamco (Bertram brass) They are 0.005 mm thinner then my WR cases made by D Horneber.
They will not hod the bulet tight and canb therefor not be used.
The Horneber cases are quite ok and I will use only them i the future.
I also make my own bullets, it is great fun.
I trimm with fine sanding paper if they need a little trim.

Jeffery I saw your bullets,Man those rounds look cool!  I salute you for taking on such a project!I wouldnt know where to start.You will get a lot of shooters wanting some of those jewels!Will you sell any?What calibers will you/want to make?Good show!!!

What caliber do you shoot ?
I do not plan on producing any. The copper is not cheep.
If I get the time I will test the bullets this week or weekend.

Hey Andre,Let us know how your bullets group and perform .I just bought a 416 remington winchester Express Rifle and have some bullets on the way.I still have to get some brass and dies.
I also have a new whitworth 458 that I just got glassbedded.I also have a 375 H&H Safari express.What is your favorite big bore gun?As far as bullets go my favorites are Nosler,swift,speer grandslams,hornady,Remington core-loks.
And for reasons unknown,have all ways liked big round nose bullets?I guess they just look safari looking?Wild Boar hunting is one of my favorites hunts....

I also have a .375 H&H mag pre-64
So I might make some bullets in that caliber.
Have you ever used the Woodleigh bulets ?
I shoot then in my 375 they are 235 grn.
I have also loaded some rhino solid shank 270 grn. but not hunted with them.
My favorite big bore is my .500 Jeffery

Hey jeffery,I shot a spike buck running fast across a field with a 338wm and the federal high energy loaded with 250gr.woodleighs a few years ago.Buck dropped,never moved,perfect hit- dead center.One of my all time greatest shots.off hand 100+ yards,buck running streight away.winchester 70 super grade rifle leupold 2.5x8 scope.I have liked that bullet and combo ever since.
Also does anyone know what pilot size to use for 338&375H&H for a lyman or rcbs case trimmer?Iam having trouble finding info on internet.Is it 33 and 37 numbers?I gotta get a couple....Also is there a cheapway to clean brass without a tumbler?Any secrets/designs?Tie to car wheel?Home made tummblers?Cleaners?Brasso.

Hi
there is a liquid that used to be available in this country called MICRO, unfortunately it is now only available in bulk to laboratories but it is a standard lab cleaner used to clean test tubes etc. you just add a couple of capfulls into a bowl of hot water, soak your cases for a while and then wipe the gunk off as you take each one out. Rinse in cold water and allow to dry, brilliant stuff. I'm sure you will be able to get something similar from a chemical supply warehouse.
Failing that, if you have access to a lathe, turn some tapered mandrels, chuck them into an electric drill, slide the mouth of the case over the taper and away you go, any metal polish on a piece of old rag will bring them up like mirrors but be careful not to let the rag wrap around the case or it can give you a nasty knock. I used this method for years until I bought a tumbler.
