Jeffery 12 bore rifle
      #236919 - 20/10/13 04:34 AM

I sent my single shot 12 bore Jeffery off back in may to be rebarreled with a new rifle barrel. The old shotgun barrel would not pass proof and had a hole ground into it so that it could be auctioned legally in England. I paid 45 pounds for it. Bought a new hastings shotgun barrel and had it monoblocked, (sleeved), into the action and sights put on. I got it back yesterday. It weighs 5lbs 8ozs. And considering the action will be for blackpowder level loads only. Chambered for 2 3/4". Should be a handy little rifle up here. Now, blue or brown?

Brown would be nice.

Butternut Brown - carded between solution coats.

3 loads come to mind for the 2 3/4" hull as per Greener, all with round ball.

110gr. at4 drams; 165gr. at 6 drams; 191gr. at 7 drams.

I would not personally shoot the 6 or 7 dram loads in that light a rifle. I think the 4 dram load would be quite sufficient and even a 3 dram 82gr. charge might be quite enough - for me - with a Magnum PAST shoulder protector under my jacket. Already have torn cartilage there and don't need more.

Nice rifle! Brown for certain.
I have NEF Pardner 12 gauge smoothbore that weighs 6 pounds 6 ounces and the recoil is very light with 3 drams of 2F black and a .678" pure lead ball. Even less recoil with a low pressure 3 dram equivalent smokeless load.
I will be working up progresivly heavier loads over the next couple of weeks so I can have it ready for Iowas December deer season.

I have another 12 bore coming and an H&H 28 bore single also. Thinking of making the 28 bore into a 450/400 2 3/8" BPE.

The 28

the 12

What's the barrel length on the Jeffery 12, and sighting ranges?

Those other 2 are going to be great, how much does the 28 weigh? 450/450 2 3/8 is a lovely cartridge too, commend you on the choice!

Cheers.

26" the old sight I used says "1", "8", "8" on them. They are tall enough that I think I'll get 75, 100 and maybe 125.
