I had one of these years ago in 45-70. I just picked up this one which is chambered in 30-40 krag. I'm really impressed with the workmanship. It is one of those rifles that just feels right in your hands. I was told it came from a gunsmiths estate. He did a good job on it. I plan to shoot it tomorrow. [image]http://[/image]

its a very nice sporting rifle but it looks there are no iron sights. imho, a gentleman's rifle need iron sights for being not nacked and english style express sights will probably fit nice to you rifle.
think about it
there is a difference between the original rim and the 30-40 did the bolt work without problems?

Nice- if it didn't have the montecarlo stock, that is, if it had a classic straight comb, I'd agree with lancaster about sights. As it is, I wouldn't bother. Nice!

I shot it today. One needs to cycle the bolt briskly to kick the cases out of the receiver but if you do it feeds and functions just fine. I had a couple of 3 shot groups of less than an inch at 60 yards so I think it is worth spending some time in load development.

Loaded with some 220 grain round nosed softs, it ought to be just the cat's whiskers for elk in the thick stuff where you are.

Exactly what I'm planning to do. I'm an old fashioned heavy round nosed bullet kind of guy!
