Finnish custom - Mannlicher Carcano

This Mannlicher Carcano rifle belongs to the collection of Suomen metsästysmuseo - The Hunting Museum of Finland. Those so called Terni -rifles were minor part of Finnish Army`s armament in WWII. After war them mainly has been sold to foreign lands but some of them left in Finland and has been sold to civilians. Most of those rifles converted to 8,2x53R and 9,3x53R by finnish custom gunsmiths but this particular rifle has been chamfered to 8x57.

The reason why this rifle has donated to museum is an anecdote that it has been appertained to man who shot the first finnish White-tailed deer (Odocoileus virginianus) in year 1960 (with public licence, in year 1958 one animal has been shot for researching purposes). In that first deer hunting season 12 animals has been shot.

First White-tailed deers (four animals) has transplanted in Finland from Minnesota in year 1934 and next four more in 1948. After that we have had own deer population. In first year very small but in year 2011 has 25 694 animals been shot.

is it a single shot or did they make the 8x57 working in the original clip?
would like to see what they do with mosin rim brass also? seems a problem with the original extractor!
my own fun project, carcano full stock stutzen for the 7,62x39 starts officially on friday.

I suppose that it has a working magazine. I have never handled any Carcano, original or customized so my knowledge of them is very minimal.

Edit. The original caliber is 7,35 x 51

I have hunted whitetail deer with many different Finnish rifles but never a Carcano ! I never knew there were Whitetail deer in Finland .Great post ,Thank you

We even have a very small population (in three different areas) of Fallow deer (Dama dama).
