Hmm, if that rifle is all original (no restoration or replacement parts like sights) I would say their estimate is way low. Beautiful rifle, I've never really been able to decide if I like the action inserts but the wood ones on this one are nice.

So many Sharps Borchard rifles were re-barreled and turned into varmint rifles, through the 30's to 50's. Too bad.
That one's very nice.
Doesn't seem low priced to me - but then,I've never seen one listed before. It's worth what it can be sold for, I guess.
Prices change with location and time for sale desires.

The Borchard's particularly in the target models do not demand the price that the 74's do. I collected Sharps for many years and had one exactly like that one in 95% original condition. When I sold the collection a 74 buffalo rifle in 55-60% original condition brought twice as much as the Borchardt target.

That's interesting because the target, and sporting models, are the rarest type. The military guns are what you usually see because they were the most numerous. It may have something to do with the popularity of the model, it may still be a sleeper. In my experience, the Borchardt is by far a superior gun to anything Sharps ever made, it was ahead of its time similar to the way Volcanics. But then again, they are not well known.

SharpsNitro:
You are certainly correct. The borchardt was way ahead of its time. Probably why so many were converted to varmint rifles. I had a paneled action that was in a 30/40 Ackley improved that I took many animals with,.

Rarity itself isn´t a qualification to a high price on the collectors market. Popularity and condition is what keep a high price and ofcouse a demand.

Supply (rarity) and demand (popularity) are what defines prices, condition parses like items. Anyway, the last Borchardt that went through my local shop was a military gun in okay condition and was lacking a rear sight, it sold for just under $2000.

So if I keep my Chinese contract Borchardt for another 10 years it should be worth something.

I guess it depends on what you mean by "worth something", do a search for Borchardt on gunsinternational.com as they have a few listed (as do gunbroker and gunsamerica).
