It's turned out that one of the wounded hunters died. That brings the total to 6 dead and 2 wounded. The guy who did the shooting claims that he was fired upon first, yet most of those shot were hit in the back.

In reply to:

If he was hunting illegally, such as hunting private property without permission, yes he was a poacher. Just as if he had been hunting in a National Park or hunting during a closed season.

The talking heads on the news channel yesteday mentioned that of the 8 people shot only one had a gun.

They also mentioned that the suspects truck and the suspects general physical description matched the description of a suspect in another hunter shooting three years ago in Michigan.

One of the talking heads was a defense attorney and he had the gall to say this guy had a viable self defense claim if he was fired on. One of the dead people was chased down and shot in the back.

DD

From what I am seeing on the news more than one was tracked down and shot after being hit. They also said that only one or two of the victims were armed at the time of the fight. This was from Fox so who knows for sure.

Michael Savage was talking about this about 2 weeks ago on his radio show, and it seems that the guys defense team is going to try using the excuse that since he was an immigrant to this country, he wasn't familiar with our laws, and should somehow then be not held responsible for his actions.

I say that's pure B.S. When I served in the military, the day after arrival in any foreign country, we were told in no uncertain terms, that we were guests in that country, and as such, were responsible for adhearing to all of their laws. Ignorance of the law was no excuse. Period!

I was wondering what was happening with this event. Which law was he not familiar with, the one about shooting people? I hope the state where this occured has capital punishment carried out by public stoning. The needle or the chair would be too quick. By the way, do you know what rifle he used?

Not totally positive, but I seem to recall reports that he was using a Bushmaster. I might be mistaken though-wouldn't be the first time.

I happened to be hunting right next door when this happened.....and make no mistake about it this was not a hunting incident. This is homicide pure and simplle.

Later another situation of a "hunter" accidently shooting a Llama......again it was intentional...not hunting related at all.

The special I watched indicated he was using an SKS. The story in Time was also enlightening, but thankfully the story has pretty well disapeared from the national media. Hunting doesn't need too many black eyes like that.
