Trail Cams - Alberta's Rubbing Trees
      #233818 - 09/08/13 02:29 AM

Passing this on. it was labeled Alberta Grizzlies, but there are 7 adult black bears visiting this tree, and only 2 adult grizzlies (unless I missed one) - One grizzly with her 3 cubs.
Good video - elk, mountain lions and mulies (didn't look closely at them).

Kananaskis Country is one of the few places that does have a healthy grizzly bear population (and black bears) and these rub trees are very important in their social structure. They aren’t scratching an itch, it’s all about scent...Every bear that goes to those trees leaves a mark and rubs its scent
on the tree. Over time, these trees become destination points for bears"

It may well be about scent but those bears sure look like they were enjoying it.

Those grizzly cubs & the first lone grizzly were having a ball.

I thought it was a very interesting clip. Surprised how much one tree gets used. Good to see what happens in other peoples back yards.
