Parker Hale 375 H&H
      #233312 - 01/08/13 02:58 PM

I have a Parker Hale Mauser 98 actioned 375. It is a nice rifle but potentially surplus to needs and I may seek to move it on in the not too distant future. I'd be interested to hear opinions on what sort of money this rifle might be worth. It is in very good condition for its age and has express sights aswell as scope mount bases installed on the action. It is quite difficult to find a definitive ballpark for the value of these rifles and I would value any input or advice on discriminating features between various Parker Hale models in this calibre. Thanks in advance.

G'Day Fella's,

GWH, whilst Parker Hale rifles were reasonably common in Australian (when they were being made), I don't believe I have ever seen a factory P/Hale in .375 H&H!
Given this, if it is an original factory rifle, that would have to enhance it's value!!!

But, I'm not sure how much it's worth?
As always, I prefer to have it in my hands before I go there!!!

Hope that helps

GWH/Homer, seen one in .404 Jeffery here in Townsville back in the early '80's.
I didn't have the brass (or balls) to get buy it........would be worth a packet now as it had a nice straight grained stock in the wrist with good figure on the main body of the stock; looked sweet & handled well too!
If only......
Kicking myself now some 30 years later, makes you cry!!!!!
Do yourselves a favour gents - keep these gems as you'll regret it later in life.
Like a fine little BRNO ZKK 600 I sold in 7x964mm with a peep sight!

9.3

A PH 404 I think is worth more than a 375H&H but that is my view only.

I would think the 404 would be rarer. Mine seems to be a working class gun, has nice wood but not exceptional, double crossbolts through the stock and all the usual features you would expect on a 98. It is a nice practical rifle. The barrel has done virtually no work. I was thinking in the vicinity of $800-$1100. Thoughts?

I sold one in 2011 for $900 USD. It did not seem like there was a market for them in the USA.

Condition was around 85 percent, good honest wear.

Hey, thanks fellas. Gives me a good idea of where to price this one. Rell, mine sounds very similar to the one you have described.

Which Parker Hale model do you have? Makes a difference in value.

I had a play with a PH .404 years ago when I was loaned one. From memory the Parker Hale .404 was a Model 81. Plain stocked rifle, M98 action.

The same was available in .375 H&H Mag and .458 Win Mag. These were more common chamberings.

Is your rifle plain stocked? Monte Carlo? etc.

I don't think the model 1000 was in .375. The Model 1000 was a cheaper rifle and much lesser.

The 1100 was plainer but a Mark X M98 or Santa Barbara action. Some FN actions. The 1200 I think had a plain version, but also a delux Monte Carlo version. Not sure which ones were in .375.

A photo would help.

Is the action a standard length action or magnum? My guess is it would be a standard length.

Barrel length?

Just out of interest, do the mount bases block the express sights or are the express sights still visible? Are they QD mount bases?

Price range, depending on condition, model etc, but around $800 to $1200 I think IMO.

John,it has no model number indicated but my research says it is either an 81 or and 1100. The express sights can still be used with the bases which are parker hale a22 ( front) and a22 rear. The stock is more monte carlo and has white spacers on pistol grip and recoil pad. I can't post photos right now due to laptop being down, but I can email some for a look with little trouble. Cheers

I believe it is the following model. (1100M) as only the 1100M were made in .375 H&H and .458.

I have three PH`s honest rifles that are made to work and they work well for the bloke that doesn't have to have a show stopper in his grip.

GWH, I've been looking ever since for a .404 PH - even one in .375H&H to do up.......into you guessed it a .404!
Have ended up with a CZ 550 safari classic in the .404, nice but not a Parker Hale; they were not overly expensive rifles (I can't remember what the PH was now too long ago) - but were absolutely dependable!
Good honest work rifles & the stocks never split or warped, low end for what you may see in here but all "good" walnut!
I have 2, one in 7x57 (M1100) & one in .308 Norma Magnum (M1200)

Gryphon,
you're right they were the 1100M model - 24" barrel about 9 1/2 lbs & 4 shot mag.
I have an old PH catalogue here at home.
Bugger, bugger, bugger!!!
Isn't it the way, always find something that you want afterwards that's what you've always wanted!

GWH,
If you want to get rid of the old girl let me know

The Whitworths are selling for more than they originally cost new. May be the same with the Parker Hale. Wish I had picked one up back when they were very reasonably priced. Good luck! Steve

I thought Griffin was right too about it being the 1100.

However the M81 was available in .375, .404 and .458 as well but for only a short period of time in Australia I believe.

The 1100 was advertised for a lot of years.

The Model 81 was made in the 90's by Gibbs. Also known as the 81 African. His model is the Safari made by Parker Hale in the 60's. The 375 capacity is 4 plus 1 on the Safari Model and the Model 81 African capacity is 3 plus 1. I have the Deluxe Safari Model with figured wood and Engraved receiver. The Safari Models are extremely rare and mine has never been fired in new condition. I did removed those ugly white line spacers.

Very much depends on where it is and local market. In the UK Parker Hales are in the £300 to £500 level, but you can get a servo I left one for £150. A friend got a decent older Sako 375 with a Zeiss scope for £700.

With PH / whitworths etc there is quite a bit of difference in the feel between one and the next one. Some have beautifully smooth and slick actions. Others feel like they have sand and lots of slop in the action. This can make a big difference between somebody wanting it or not.

There is of course a lot of difference between asking and getting price.

Didn't PH make some Hussar model rifles built on the Brno ZG-47 action? Not sure if any of those were in .375, though.

Anyway, I would place a higher value on one of those than I would on one built on a Santa Barbara Action.

I've only seen 30-06 on the ZG47 actions, but there could have been other calibers. I'm sure they didn't build them in .375. I would hope one would value a ZG47 action higher than a Santa Barbara - no comparison.
