Fallow stags in velvet
      #23284 - 03/01/05 06:02 PM

Thought I might share these photos of my stags in velvet at the moment. Unfortunately breeding stock and not in the wild.

This stag is five years old.

I've got three or four really good stags there. At first it was easy to work out which one was the best but each day it is getting harder and harder as the others catch up.

I need to separate the best soon to replace the current breeding stag before the velvet goes.

Out of curiosity - what do you do with retired stags nitrox?

Some get a bullet, some escape a bullet.

About six stags are about to be shot this week, either as yearling culls or natural selection based on antler development or lack of it.
