Cape Buff Safari reccommendations.
      #232654 - 18/07/13 12:45 PM

Just returned from my first safari with Blaauwkrantz Safaris on the Eastern Cape. My lady and our dear friends had a great time and a wonderful experience. Will post some pictures when I get the time to wade through them all. We are looking at going back in 2015 for Cape Buffalo. Looking for recommendations from Nitro Express members that can give me a starting point of who to talk to at the SCI conference next FEB. Thanks in advance.

Here are some operators that I would not hesitate to use for a Buffalo Safari if I have not already;
Pro Safaris in their Lower Zambezi area.
Charlton & McCallum Safaris of Dande Safari area, Zimbabwe.
Chifuti Safaris Lower Zambezi valley, Zimbabwe.
Rodger Whittall in Lower Zambezi.
Buffalo Range Safaris at one of their Vic Falls areas.
www.kambakosafaris.com at the Niassa Reserve Mozambique north.
"ABC" African Bush Company (Jonathan Taylor) in the Selous Reserve of Tanzania.
"Luwire Safaris" Derek Littleton, North Mozambique.
"Luabezi Safaris" Jamie Wilson, Northern Mozambique.

All these guys hunt areas that are unfenced wild areas with everything one expects on a proper Safari.
Good camps with light fly camps for trips "out". Good PG numbers along with BG such as Lion, Leopard, Hippo, Elephant and Crocks.

Coming in for landing at my favourite place;

I can highly recommend these 2
Charlton & McCallum Safaris with Alan Shearer (PH) , Zimbabwe.
Chifuti Safaris with Rich Schultz (PH), Zimbabwe.

If you want to add some plainsgame to your Buff hunt, do look at Nuanetsi (Chifuti Safaris)

We would be willing to go from primitive basic tent to a full blown luxury lodge type accommodations. The main thing is a good safari company and PH in a area for good buff.

My recommendations:

1) Either Zimbabwe or Mozambique.

2) My best experiences have been with Richard Cooke and (indirectly) HHK. I don't know personally but I would expect Chifuti to be comparable as well.

My Suggestions:

1) Make a list of what's important to you. (Fenced or unfenced areas, herds or dugga boys, etc.)

2) Present that list to potential outfitters at the DSC or SCI convention.

3) Go all out. See Victoria Falls while your there. Leave some time for fishing for Tiger and Bream. Visit the local witch doctor. Fly in and drive out. Have a great time.

I've posted two hunt reports with photos from 2008 and 2012 in this forum and you can see lots of pictures there.

Also if you fly South African on the morning flight out of JFK then you can connect direct to Zimbabwe and you don't have to deal with customs or importing your rifles into South Africa for one day.
