Gone and done it......
      #232348 - 11/07/13 05:54 PM

Well, I have always wanted a double, have daydreamed many times over what might one day happen. Pondered whether my various 458s or 375s would have been better with two barrels......

A couple of days ago I saw an opportunity and realised a dream with the snap purchase of a Merkel 140AE in 470 NE, should be here in a week!

Looking forward very much to getting out and hunting some game with what I suspect will pan out to be a regularly carried handy working rifle.

Good times!!!

...well GW. Sometimes waiting for the right becomes too long. Sometimes one must just take the time and do it.

Well done.

Congrats on the new purchase, but beware it doesn't stop there, the double rifle bug is very powerful.

OH, that would be great. I am a fan of ADI powders.

I use alot of 2209 and would be keen to run loads in the 470 that don't require any filler where possible.

Also happy to play with 2217 as a possible alternative.

More than interested to hear what you are running.

cheers

Nathan

99 grains of 09 and up work well but of late we have had good results with only 94grns with Kynock wads. same velocity with less felt recoil.

Thanks, that 99/100 gr mark seems to be pretty popular. I've not used wads on rifle loads previously, I may have to look into it. Thanks

Congrats on the Merkel. It is a great rifle.

As I have discussed many times, I have a Merkel 140 in .500NE that has been shot many hundreds of times. It is finely accurate and stout as hell. It's also decent looking and well balanced.

Yours will be the same.

Merkel is doing great service to the sporting community by producing this well-made and reasonably priced double rifle.

Cheers Curl, I am looking forward to it immensely, should be here in a couple of days. It will see service on Buff and pigs later this year. I can see many of my bolt guns spending more time in the safe!
