Good load for the 303-35 Martini.

Hey fellas,
I struck it lucky today and found the load for my 303-35 Martini. I won't be changing anything.

5 shots at 50m, from bench rest. Rifle is fitted with a 2.5 FXII Leupold ultra light scope, mounted on the barrel.


In place of the red dot sight shown here.


Like this and with the new boolit.

The load is 36g of 2206H ( not what I hastily wrote on the target ) behind a piece of Dacron wad and pushing this boolit.

Quickload reckons about 1850 FPS, but I'll be shooting them over the Chrony, to see just what speed I'm getting.

AFRO I have a 35.303 No1 Mk3. I shoot the same CBE 358250 Proj and have settled on 38 grains of 2206H. I do not use a Filler. I have a 22" Barrel and have chronied that load at 1885 fps. I had a 3fps variation across 5 shoots and cuts 5 shot 1 hole groups so will not be changing it either. I was using 38 gr of 2208 but the 2206H shoots a little tighter groups. In my Rifle the Lyman 358315 Proj over 36 gr of 2206H shoots quite well also, no Filler, no chrony. Zero leading, I use White Label 2700 lube

That's interesting Jacko.
You certainly have a good shooter there.

I discovered, last time I zeroed mine, that the accuracy went off, after about 20 shots and I got some lead streaks, from the barrel, when cleaning it.
It could have been the .357" sized ones that left the lead. That was the only sizer I had at first, now I have a .358" sizing die, I think there will be no more problems. We had a bit of fun, knocking some silhouettes over, to get rid of them.
I'm waiting on a set of dies to come from CH4D. I have been using a set of 9 x 57 dies to neck size and load the rounds.
Some cases are tight, so they need full length sizing.

Tony I use a .358 Winchester Die set to neck up the Cases. I then run them through a .303 British Lee RGB Die I had reamed to match my chamber. I trim to 55.6 mm with a Lyman Lathe type Case Trimmer and then Fire Form. I also use the .358 Winchester Dies for neck sizing and to seat Projectiles. I have not needed to use my Full Length resizing Die other then when forming Brass and am on my 8th reload, No case stretch. I use Remington Brass mostly and have some PPU Brass.

I also size the CBE 358250 Projectiles to .359

That's all good Jacko. That system would work well.

The set of 35-303 Brit sizing dies arrived last week. They had them in stock!

When I size my cases in them ( I also use REm and PPU brass ) I get a neck length just suited to the CBE boolit.

I did some testing, the other day and found that 27.5g of ADI 2207, gave really good groups at 50m, with consecutive boolits cutting the edges of the original hole. I will chrony this load next shoot and see what they are doing.

My projectiles come out of the mould at .3585", so the .358" sizer just rubs the outside.

If the breech pressures are high enough to slug the bullet up slighty, the groove diameter bullets will probably shoot just about as well as bullets that are 1 to 2 thou oversize - normally.
If the alloy's strength exceeds the breech pressure's ability to perform this 'change' then leading will ensure due to gas cutting.
