303 Barrel Blank?
      #230936 - 07/06/13 12:54 PM

Any suggestions on where to find a barrel blank in 303? Also does anyone have measurements of a Lee Speed barrel? I seem to recall that the contour is heavier than the standard SMLE barrel.

If not in the US, then Australian makers
makes them.

I'd prefer a us maker, as the import fees can be pretty steep.

What import fees ?

The post would be the worst.

The last time I checked, the was a license required by our ATF to import a rifle barrel, but that was specific to a surplus one.

Try Ruger and see if they have any left over from the N01 they did in 303Brit. If they do they probably will not be the correct contour that you want but you won't know unless you ask.

Call Norm Johnson at High Plains Reboring in Turtle Lake, ND.

He made two cut rifled .303 barrels for me last year.

The Lee Speeds do not necessarily have a heavier profile than an SMLE, I have seen one a little lighter.

Up to 24" long you can get them from Green Mountain Barrels.
Here's a link.

Barrels can be had from a few other makers too. McGowen does a very nice job.

However, magazines have been a nightmare for me. I have been looking for a 7 shot Irish Constabulary Lee Mag now for 9 years. I have never found one. I have a rifle action for one made in 1900 but I need a mag.

Is that a specialist magazine ?

Or will any SMLE mag fit ?

The standard #1 Indian 303 will work, (a friend has one and we tried it) but the original is closer to a Speed magazine from what I am told. I was told it was a 7 round mag.
I have never even seen one other than some pictures I have saved.

I am ready to compromise and use a #1 mag so I can get the project started. Then I will change it to a 7 round or even a smaller one lat3er if ever I can find one
Do you have any #1 magazines?
If you'd like I can send you pics of the rifle I have. Please PM me and give me your personal e-mail address and I'll send pics.
