looks to be a decent rifle ;very nice wood.Dont know whats up with the "added" stripper clip guide ,though. That may keep the safe queen collectors away from it however ,and bring it to a person who will use it as the weapon was intended

The "added" charger is indeed odd. Looks like a rifle that was mentioned on another forum some years back, had a charger "re-installed" after being removed.

The purchasers intent, in talking with I believe, is to get into a Lee afffordably and learn about them, then progress into a named better maker (more expensive) version. Of which I agree wholeheartedly.

BSA lee Sporters are as scarce as a blue hyena in the USA .I brought mine in from Namibia and at the time was considered an antique firearm. If he wins that rifle he may be keeping it a long time before another arrives

It wasn't uncommon to add a charger bridge to the older rifles after 1907.
The Military even adopted the CLLE (Charger Loading Lee Enfield), nothing more than the (Long) Lee Enfield with the charger bridge added.
I think you'll find in the BSA 1914 catalog reprint that the charger bridge on the sporters is offered as an option. Of course you loose the dust cover and the dust cover lugs on the bolt body.

The workmanship around the bridge looks a bit less than what I'd expect from a maker, but it is what it is and there's nothing that can't be cleaned up.
Perhaps it was ordered with a bridge originally,,someone removed the original at some point maybe for cosmetic reasons,,then one was re-installed at a later time.
I do notice that the butt stock has been cut for the operation of the No1 type left side safety lever.
That type not having been used on the earlier Sporters, perhaps the wood, though BSA marked was used on another rifle.

It went for $556 I think ,which is not a bad price for what it is despite the rifes deficientcies.

Interesting rifle ... not an expert in much of anything, but I'd guess that the charger bridge is a later addition. Also, it seems that the forestock wood is different than the buttstock? Perhaps a rifle's that's been restocked and modified - at the same time?

That charger bridge is a hideous conglomeration at best.I would remove it and weld up and refinish those holes in the receiver. but the rest of the rifle seems quite salvagable

As mentioned above, looks to have been removed and re-installed at some time. Nothing a little bench time can't fix. Too bad Richard didn't get it, would have been fun to see it in action.
He has bigger Lee plans anyway.
