Shot in late May (31th) 2003 with my Model B Intermediate Mauser.
Time was 4.44 AM during an eclipes. Couldnīt have been any better.

Excellent Jens!

How will you prepare the mount?

Jens, well done of your first roebuck, almost ten years ago. I'm guessing you have taken a few more between then and now?

Thanks you all.

. This Buck here walked out from a mustard field and stopped just 30meters in front of me, completely posing for a broad sideshot. The ammution I used was old Norma Alaska 196grain in 8x57.
The 8x57 is really too powerful for such an animal.
The rifle is from 1913. Rebarreled in 1946.
This buck here is headmonted as my only "trophy".

rigbymauser,
Thank you for the photograph and bringing back some fine memories. I took my first roebuck in Germany in 1996 and will never forget it- for a number of reasons. The one that really stands out is the fact that it was shot twice with a .30-06! The first shot took out the bottom portion of the heart but remarkably the animal simply looked over its shoulder as if nothing happened- it was as if I had just taken a shot on a moose! I was amazed since as you point out an 8x57 or a .30-06 are more than ample for these diminutive deer.

Kindest regards...
