Lapua Mega 9.3mm 285 grainers and a Leupy 2.5x20 FXII
      #226798 - 11/03/13 12:14 PM

Went out this AM to sight in a brand new Leupy FXII  2.5x20 with wide Duplex reticle on my 9.3x62.

This scope surprised me for a Leupy. Very clear, excellent field of view, click adjustment turrets and at 2.5x20 a good exit pupil for my ageing eyes.
I chose this scope as it is very light weight, fixed power so no stuffing around in the field, a reticle that doesn't cover the target and all up doesn't unbalance a very nicely balanced rifle.

After getting on paper I moved my regular target out to 100 yards and FMD if the old eyes gave less than optimal performance. I changed to a circular target with a 5" inner ring and was able to maintain a constant sight picture.

The top two shot group was with a 285 Lapua Mega and 286 Woodleigh. After a few clicks depression, the centre group was with the 285 Lapuas.

I've had good performance on smaller game up to 60kg liveweight with the Privi Partisan projectile and I expect the RNSP conventionally constructed Lapua will do the same and for larger animals as well.

I used a 2X Leupold on a .458 for a few years after removing the 2 1/2X Weaver for my brothers' .356 M94 - that one worked perfectly as well.

Good scope for the calibre. Simple and no nonsense.

I have one on order with MarkR with a German no.4 reticle (I think it was??? Still waiting for it).

tophet1 great scope for that rifle. I have had great success with a 1-4 on my Tikka 9.3. rE: re: the PP bullets I shot 100 round of Highland factory (same pill)9.3x62 at brumbies and failed to recover a bullet. They were sensational penetrators & killers at 2200fps MV.

That's a really long action. How's the eye relief?

Action is a .30-06 length FN military action. Eye relief is fine.

The eye relief is approximately 5 inches. I have used one on my .458 Winchester with success.

John:

Have you actually had a chance to look at the Leupold iteration of a German No. 4 reticle? If so, what do you think of it?

I have two of them and for dark and dim conditions they are great, BUT...

If they are still making them the same way {mine are a few years old}, they have very thick crosshairs. Not at all like a Swarovski, Zeiß, Burris, etc version of the #4.

Some who have looked thru my rifles HATE the reticle. I do not recall what it subtends at 100, but I want to say something like 2 inches. Maybe a little more?

Anyway, just a headsup.

I really like the "Wide Crosshair" setup tophet shows us, but I've never seen that "graticle" available here, or maybe I just missed it?

I am looking to put this same scope on my Dumoulin 9.3X62.
