Check out this beauty which I think the seller is a bit off in his cal description..
Never seen anything quite like it, but would love to own it..

It's cordite proofed. Westley Richards triangle on it. Don't know what's up with the split in the butt above the checkering.

Very nice - the entry pipe and forend cap looks almost exactly like the one on my 14 bore cap-lock rifle.
That's sweet - just ponder at the imagination required to build a rear sight like this rifle has and for a very early ctg. such as this using 35gr. cordite? So - nitro for black era V-early nitro rifle? - or am I missing something?

safe the pics, action looks very strong

Beautiful Large bore 450/500 nitro express rifle in superb condition,
Makers name under the fore-end is NA&AC , not sure of exact age but its been suggested that its just after ww1, this needs to be confirmed, great finish to all metal work, there is the odd old oil stain on the action as can be seen in pics, this will clean up i am sure. the timber work is lovely , barrel retains almost all the original blue, pretty close to perfect. This calibre is quite popular in Africa. Its a beautiful large game rifle .
Price-$2800 Dealer to Dealer transaction for this rifle as its on Qld shooters lic.

It is a Westley Richards made Deely Edge action rifle. These rifle were usually target rifles in 450 no 2 Musket, but like all things British, the sky is the limit.The typical time period was 1874- 1900.The caliber seems unusual for the type of rifle- heavy target barrel, target sights (the one screw on the tang is where the ladder type sight goes) and of the cleaning rod (for cleaning the barrel during matches with the black powder rounds)
Interesting pieces though!

Counterboring would assist the cleaning or patch-out process between shots. Basically it's meant for long range target shooting. BTW do I see the stamp "Henry Rifling" on the barrel?

Or to get rid of worn rifling caused by "ramrod rash"!

Or it's to correct muzzle damage without shortening the barrel due difficulties with the rib and sights. Due to the depth of the counterbore, I'd vote for damage correction.

I would bet on the muzzle damage. Theoretically one of the advantages of the Deeley and Edge action over the Martini is the ability to be cleaned from the breech. Muzzle damage from cleaning should be minimal, but then who knows what adventures and abuse this pretty old gal has enjoyed in the last century and a bit.

I am surprised that the dealer is so far off in his description. I would bet a chamber cast looks a heck of lot more like 500/450 No.2 musket than any nitro express cartridge.

35grs. cordite seems to be the nitro for black loading for the 500/450No.2 cartridge.
Looks like it is sold. Anybody here pick it up?
