Those m96 Swede Mausers are cheap as dirt here in Finland and Sweden but I do not care any of them if I could buy any m98 Husqvarna instead.

A friend of mine has an Oberndorf square bridge sporter on Gunbroker as auction #329590778. Sorry, I didn't have any luck posting the link for it. -------------- GeezerD

This is double interesting since it appears to have all the features of a BRNO 21F carbine, except that the barrel is 60 cm (24") long, which I would think would be the minimum for an ear drum burster like the 7X64.

I think your friend's starting price is a little optimistic, considered that the rifle has been rebarrelled to a screamingly non-German caliber.

Also, referring to the rifle as otherwise original is a little much, considering the dovetail cut in the receiver ring to accomodate the claw mount base.

The claw mount itself is interesting, but I think that finding rings to match the bases would be quite difficult, aside from the misssing lever on the rear (square bridge) base.

That said, it would certainly be an interesting rifle to play with.

I have cast longing eyes at this rifle, too. Except for the odd treatment of the stock on the left side, just above the trigger and below the tang, it has wonderful classic lines, and the FN action is handled with respect, with no Germanic modifications, other than a little engraving.

I like this mauser, only those APEL under parts and Buehler -style safety are small mistakes in style:

Don't forget the rather crudely altered bolt handle, which, unlike the scope bases and safety would be very difficult to restore to original condition. Also the non-original caliber stamping on the receiver ring would seem to indicate that the barrel is not original either. It sure is a pretty thing, however.

Quite nice. This rifles basic design is very near of that "African" Sporter which I have.

"pre war gustav genschow 10,75x68" http://www.egun.de/market/item.php?id=4307625&PHPSESSID=1c48372950c373727e35fa1e0204049c

what you see here is an ex gustav genschow 10,75x57 with another old stock and rechambered for the 10,75x68, probably completly reworked with a new blueing, imho.
the valuable Zeiss Ziel 6 on claw mount could be old but its also possible it was made new when this rifle was seeing the work bench again lately.
serial number 902 make it the first model whats clearly visible on the front sight. Rolf here have bought the number 905 last year.
http://forums.nitroexpress.com/showflat.php?Cat=0&Number=206900&an=0&page=0#Post206900

lots of high quality pics but the seller dont show the old caliber specification on the barrel. all of you thinking the neuseeland original mauser is to expensive look at the price asking for this rifle.

I like that one and with a Schmidt & Bender on it with eaw mounts on what looks like an original model b otherwise. Is the bolt handle look modified or is it an illusion? Mounts look to be fairly high so it may not have had to be modified. Looks like a nice piece of wood as well. Too bad the ammo's so darn hard to find and pricey.
