Lee Speed Finish ... ?
      #225616 - 20/02/13 01:19 PM

Just a question as to the metal finish for the Lee Speed. Was the metal finish originally a rust blue, chemical blue or ? Also, other parts finished differently, with a different process and look?

Thanks,

Kerry

Kerry:
Rust-blued barrels, magazines, trigger-guards, actions and bolts in my experience, with bright charcoal-blued butt-plates on some of the better examples. Some screw-heads and other small parts charcoal-blued or simply heat-blued on the better grades too. Think I have seen a charcoal-blued bolt cover too, but memory not so clear these days!

I've seen that glassy-spooky charcoal blacking on dust covers, trigger guards, and buttplates of high grade rifles.
Haven't seen a single modern refinish that compares.

Cheers
