Brno Set Trigger Adjustment
      #225667 - 21/02/13 07:15 AM

Hello Guys

I've come across a Brno Model 21 where the set trigger has been replaced (with a military trigger and bottom metal) because " the trigger was too light set and too heavy unset". The rifle is for sale with all the original parts.

Is it possible for a competent 'smith to tune the Brno set trigger to a nice "unset" trigger pull ??

Thanks

I suppose anything in the right hands can be done, possibly by installing a lighter spring? But set triggers are just that, using a Moderate pull to set the set trigger, and heavier to go all the way to firing. The front trigger pull can be adjusted to suit you, right down to a light touch.

I have several rifles that had the rear trigger removed, beats me why. I would say if you are not happy with DSTs the easiest answer is a good after market trigger / a military trigger made adjustable, it's the least expensive way to go.

FWIW --- John

I had a dozen M21 and still have a couple . I like those rifles.
But the Brno DST is far from being satisfactory.
You certainly can achieve a good function in the set position, but you will never get a really nice working trigger in the unset position.

Because the trigger pivot pins are in the base plate itself (low), the front trigger geometry is poor for easily adjusting unset trigger pull. This is not to say it cannot be done, just not by a mere mortal - just kidding - maybe?
Very difficult to make fairly light (3 pounds?) and safe as well.

I have had such triggers adjusted by a competent gunsmith. In both cases, single and set. A trick I have used in old (and new) triggers is to clean them thoroughly with action cleaner or brake cleaner and then lubricate them with a high quality synthetic gun oil. I have used Rem Oil and Break Free with good results. In fact I disassemble the entire action and give it a good dousing with the lubricant. I remove all the excess and reassemble. It never hurts, even in the best of cases. In the worst of cases, it smartens them up.
