Anyone know where I can get my hands on a pair of 375FM snap caps? Preferably in Australia but not a necessity.
Cheers.

If you want to sacrifice a couple of shells I can tell you how to make simple long lasting ones that work great.
I've done this for several odd balls that I have.

Try John Saunders at Century Arms, he now sells traditional horn striker blocks for letting down the firing pins of doubles, rather than snap caps.

Kynoch in the UK do 'em, but they ain't cheap - see their snap cap price list, downloadable from this webpage, http://dmt-hosting.co.uk/kynoch/shop.html

aromaker - good point re: the pencil erasers, I have old cases with "hit" primers for all my rifles. I will punch out some hard rubber for primer pockets in due time

The ones that I make are simple and easy of you have a few tools.
I drill out the primer pocket with a 7/16" drill bit. Tap the hole with a 1/4"X20. ( Use what ever metric size is appropriate) Then with a nylon pan head screw grind down the head until it fits thru the neck. It this is a 450 or smaller I cut the case off about an 1 1/2" up from the rim.
I grind the thread end of the screw at about a 45 degree point fo ease of instalation. After it's started in the hole run it in until the complete threads are exposed.
With a sharp knife cut the point off until it's flush with the rim.

As the nylon is distorted with use simply screw it in further and trim.
This makes very good use of cases with split necks or the bright ring around the base.

Please don't use pencil erasers. The pencil eraser rubber offers so little cushioning (almost none) that using them is really no different to using no snap caps at all.
Over the years many "home made" snap cap ideas have been suggested, and some are ok.
Avoid any that suggest using pencil erasers.

/\ or silicone in the primer pocket!

Oz,
I'm not sure where you can get a decent set of snap caps in Australia. As someone already mentioned, Century Arms seems to just offer the "one size fits all" horn striker blocks these days.

Might have to try overseas.

If you are just wanting to relieve the striker spring tension on a double, a decocking bar of brass or aluminium works pretty well.

AkMike your idea about the nylon is good. I just use nylon from the cutting boards but having to cut out and fit new ones is a pain.

Some of the ones I need these for are commercially unavailable so I needed to come up with a different plan of attack without a lathe.

I just did a set for new member that has yet to post for his new Chapuis 9.3X74.

...in my opinion eraser-material is way to soft for that job!

Take an old worried out Flanged Magnum hull, put one drop of hot lead into an empty (fired!) primer cup (sanse the anvil), seat that special cup into the primer pocket with a drop of good epoxy - here you are with ready-made snappers for your Flanged Magnum NE!

You can also use bakelith material for the primer section instead of the "leaded cup"......
