Westly Richards in 500NE
      #22461 - 21/12/04 01:49 AM

I talked on the phone the other day with a guy I know who has a Westly Richards double in 500NE. I'm not sure how old it is, but I'm guessing from before 1960? He won it in a game of poker about 15 years ago...

I haven't seen in in a few years, but I seem to recall that it's in good working condition.

Any ideas what such a gun might be worth? Or at least what kind of price it might start at?

Erik

Is the WR a boxlock or sidelock?

Here is a WR sidelock with 2 sets of barrels (470 NE & 450/400) for sale for US$48K. But it has been for sale for more than a year with no takers.

Here is a WR box lock in .470 for US$23,500:

Whoever made the second barrel set for that sidelock managed to get the backsight in about the right place which is something that WR often/usually gets wrong IMO.
Westley rearsights are fitted too far back on many of their doubles for my liking.

Value depends on whether it is a WR:-

Sidelock
Droplock
Gold Name (Boxlock with gold name as posted above)
"White Hunter" model from the 60's - Generally a Boxlock Ejector.

The of course you have to take into account:-
- when it was made
- condition

If you can find out the above, I can email an approx value to you.

Just a slight correction if I may. There is no such thing as a " Gold Name" model rifle. When the rifles were made, the buyer could have the makers name engraved on the receiver and gold inlaid if he wanted.
