Safety on Martini Cadet?

I'm sure this has been talked about before, but I couldn't find it.

Whan having a Martini Cadet built is there a practical way of putting
a side lever safety on it, similar to what is put on some of the large
Martini rifles? Or at least a safety of some type?

Sportco used to market Martini Cadets converted from .310 to .22 RF, .22 Hornet and .25/20

As part of the conversion they added a safety button that mounted on the trigger guard behind the trigger and moved from right to left on a detent. Quite nicely made.

I have two cadets with safety's on them. One is done done by Vic Samuel and is a left to right sliding bolt behind the trigger. The other was done by I don't know who and it slides in a slot cut in the trigger guard and moves up and down with the action. It works very well and I like it the best of the two but I don't have any idea who did it. Vic does very good work and is reasonable. You can locate him at this site.

Why do you need a safety on a Martini?

It's a single shot, it doesn't need to be carried around loaded.

I have hunted with them for over 30 years and never felt the need. Killed a good number of animals with them and never noticed any short comings.

Never seen a safety conversion on a Martini yet that was something I would trust and that goes especially for that Greener side safety. They are not reliable and they are not safe.

Of the add on the safety's I have see the best is probably the cross bolt that goes behind the trigger. But even those have to be set up perfectly with zero slack or they can fire when the cross bolt is moved.

I carry my Martini (.17HMR) with a round in the chamber and the lever 'down', where it rests and resists closing due to the caming action of the main spring. The top of the extractor holds the round in the chamber. Merely pull the lever up, cocks the rifle - aim and squeeze off the shot. It's quick, safe and quite silent.

I do not trust "Safety Dodges" as Lt,. James Forsyth called mechanical safeties.

My friend, the late Harry Creighton, used to install a safety from a Browning Double Automatic in the rear of a Cadet trigger guard, effectively blocking the trigger:

Vic Samuel's will install a safety on your Cadet Martini. He does very good work and is very reasonable to deal with.
