Lee Speed Prices?
      #224061 - 22/01/13 01:16 AM

Just a ? on what one might spend buying an LS. The members post a lot of pics. (which I enjoy) of their rifles but not many say how much emptier their wallets are.

The reason I ask this is I found some LS parts for sale on another site, asking $2000 Cdn for the stock alone. I thought at that price one could likely buy a decent LS rifle, realizing that there are many "grades" and different condition issues.

Is this gentleman even in the ball park / way out there? --- John

I think a decent rifle could be found in the $2-3K range.
Lee Speeds are one of those rifles which are still little known among gun enthusiasts particularly here in the US.
Just keep your eyes open and a fund at the ready and one will show up sooner or later.

I sold one for $3500 about 4 years ago. It was a very, very nice BSA with 28" barrel, full length rib, etc. It was in excellent condition through and through. As Huvius suggests, you just need to keep your eyes open. The Lee Speeds I have took a good while to locate. I don't see very many of them at the numerous shows I attend, nor on the internet, and I'm always looking for Lee Speeds. Having said that, one has to be patient and be an opportunist. One will show up when you least expect it!

There's one for sale here in England, without a rib, for £400 i.e. $650. Nobody wants it. It has been in the shop for four years. I'm saving up for a .303 double.....

I paid $1000.00 for the LSA lee speed in the previous post which is pretty worn and seen a lot of use. Patos rifle in the same post is a beautiful rifle and we were discussing its value Sunday and thought it would have to be worth $2500.00. I would pay more than that to get it.

John, at the price for the stock it would want to be something very special, think very hi grade walnut . Have a look around, if you can't find what you want, have a look at the Holts auctions, for 2-3000 $ you could probably import a suitable rifle from the source.

Cheers
Pete

John: Saw a nice, complete Cogswell and Harrison sell on the EE a while back for 1800 CDN, and there was another post with four for sale, ranging from 800 to 1500, I believe, in various states of completeness.

They're around, and the vast majority of people have no idea what they are. I'll pick one up soon, I suspect.

Thank you all. I have never held a LS but have a couple of sporterized LEs and to me I couldn't come to grips with the price differential. Saying this is in no way meant to demean either the LS / LS owners it's just my mind set, for some reason I can visualize a Mauser worth a zillion $ but not a Lee.

Any way my interest has been spurred so I will keep my eyes open - even just to handle one / perhaps buy. --- John

I felt the same till I saw and used one. Seems to be a disease.

Me too.
No matter what ammunition or bullet weight, it is just incapable of shooting inaccurately.
I am a diehard Mauser nut too but my Lee Speed is one I will never part with. Just an incredibly nice rifle/cartridge combination.
