What amazed me as one from down under who has never seen a bear in the wild was just how damn fast that thing got up that tree. It seemed almost instantly that it disappeared under that younger guy and he seemed to immediately look up over his shoulder. Phew!!!! Just a question though, would they have been justified in shooting it as a threat? Or was it actually running from the other bear that appears from off screen and got as big a surprise as those lads? It did not seem aggressive when it was behind them? Maybe be obvious to you men from the North so sorry if it is a bit of a simple question.

You'd be amazed how quickly a Black can get up a tree. What's scary is when you happen to look up and see a couple cubs looking down at you. Your first thought is "cute little buggers", your second is "oh sh!t, where is Mama?".

The stench of extrement would have detered the bear from lingering as long as it did.

Not too sure why that video is SO exciting and has made the rounds on the internet for months now. Happens all the time and some a whole lot more exciting than that one.

As Even said, black bears can go up a tree in the blink of an eye. Last year I had to bonk one on the head with my bottle of water before it would back off as it was trying to climb into my tree stand. I was trying to take some pictures of him as he came up and was right below the stand, but the darn auto focus on the camera kept focusing on the mesh of the stand platform and the bear was a big blur......... which was unfortunate as they would have been good pictures. Oh well............ it will happen again for sure at some point.

Oh yes - THAT will make the hair neck stand up on the back of your neck!(havne't got any on top of my head)

Walking through the bush mid summer .17 AH (or HMR or Ruger 10-22) in hand, walking to the next field, you hear 'something' above you, stop and look up and there's 3 cubs 10' over your head on a big Aspen - YIKES! The ground cover is 4' high, thick - OMG where's Mama - you know she heard you coming and sent them up that tree. She's is circling downwind of you RIGHT-NOW - keep moving, keep moving, your head's on a swivel. Oh yeah - bears are cool.

"It" happens.
