Brand new fresh off the press Zasatva Mauser rifle in the hard hitting 9.3x62mm http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/9.3%C3%9762mm
Pictured beside a 100ish year old 8x57mm mauser

A great value firearm & the amount it will be used ,icouldnt justify a more expensive Rifle. But being built on a Mauser 98 action, it would be hard to improve on anyway.
The New Zastava rifles have nothing on the old Mark-Xs from the 1980s. But its not too bad. The checkering is shocking. But will suite my needs as a bush bashing rifle.
Now just need to scope her up & sort out some ammo along with reloading gear.

Nice bit of timber on the Zastava. The have a reputation as being an accurate rifle. Should serve you well.

A friend of mine at my urging purchased one in .300 Win. Mag.
The wood was also very nice with fiddle-back the whole length, however the finish / checkering and style is not to his liking. I volunteered make the stock more like that old Mauser and fix up the checkering for him.
Accuracy is very good and he got a nice deer with it last year. At $495 Cdn. all in all it's a bargain.
Enjoy the rifle Justin. --- John

That Zastava is a good looking rifle. I just checked and tradeexcanada seems to have sold all of their Zastava's . They must have had over 100 of them.

Nothing wrong with the Zastava's.
A good entry level medium bore gun that will do what 95% of shooters in this country want them to do.

Plastic stocked rifles are about $590 Wood about $750. Tasmanian prices tend to be a bit more than mainland.
I gave the stock a drink of BLO and the grain improved quite alot.
I have a old Zastava Mark-X in .270. Much better finished. It will put 5 rounds in to 3/4" @100M all day long. That rifle sold me on the Zastavas. I did have another in 7mm Rem Mag. That was a total piece of rubbish. Would not group in to a side of a barn. Even after recrowning ,Glass bedding and every other trick was tryed.
ended up giving it away.

Pity they are still selling the wood stocks with a Monte Carlo design still, thirty years after "Monte Carlo" went out of fashion.

Thanks Gadge.
The stock is very club like, but if fits me well. At least it has no bloody white line spacers. Hate those things to death.

If they got rid of the rollover comb that alone would be a big improvement.
I used to have a Parker Hale Delux Monte Carlo stock on my .30-06. At one time I liked it but my tastes matured to like the classics.
I have been tempted by one of these Zastava's in 9.3x62 myself, as a loaner rifle and rough rifle. But would prefer the plastic stocked rifle, except they come with no open sights on the barrel.
Either a Zastava or a new barrel for my Mauser M03, or even better just use what I already have!
