"Kal. Mod. 88 9mm" thats maybe a little bit confusing for the beginner who may think the Mod. 98 sporting rifle is named as Mod. 88

Three Model 1922 Newton Mauser rifles were auctioned off at the same auction today, the most expensive going for $1500, a steal in my opinion, considering that there were only 100 of them originally in existance. Here is the listing for the most expensive one.

Bill: Another interesting rifle in the Amoskeag auction was lot #220, a very early factory Kurz action 8x51 Mauser built in 1902. This is one of the earliest one's I've seen offered for sale. I stopped by to personally inspect lot #54, the Fred Adolph Kurz Mauser described as a 25 Adolph Express. Unfortunately, it was much modified by some Bubba and the value was destroyed. The present caliber is anyone's guess but it's certainly NOT a 25 Adolph Express.

Don,

Did you look at lot # 51, the custom kurz Mauser in .250 Sav., by any chance?

How did it look?

The description said it is a "fairly well-executed rifle", or something like that.

Thanks

Interesting. I made an absentee bid of 7.5k for the Griffin .35 Rem 2 or 3 weeks ago. I followed the auction online and it showed a hammer price of 6.5k when the lot came up so was feeling pretty good. I later rechecked and it showed a hammer price of 7.5k. I guess I was caught by the 'tie goes to the floor' rule. I should have been more aggressive or bid by phone. Those rifles don't often come to market ... and .... I wanted one of Stretch Kennedy's guns.

mckinney ,i think my friend would of went up to 9k on that griffin ,it was that nice ,,plus it was a single square bridge which i dont think was in the description ,,i handles it myself ,it was flawless and 100% original so much that the grain of the stock was slightly raised ,never any oil rubbed on it ,,,not to worry but the next auction coming up will have some nice guns in it ....paul

I have a .35 Rem griffin on a kurz SSB that I picked up 10 years ago in the Emil McConnell sale. It has a mannlicher style stock, totally different look from the Kennedy rifle. Would have been nice to have the pair. (greed knows no bounds:))

Speaking of Michael Petrov, I wonder what will happen to his Griffin database? Hopefully it goes to Bob Beech at Griffin for safekeeping. Michael shared photos of some of his rifles with me over the years as he did with many people. The .400 Whelen griffin Springfield is sweet and he had a .22 Lovell that also looked good. I'll feel strange bidding on his rifles but I suppose he would have wanted us to have them.

I once told Michael that I had no intention of leaving my guns to the NRA and he agreed, saying that the NRA did not even know what they had and would often turn to him for answers to questions about items in their possession. He said that he wanted his guns sold so that others could get as much enjoyment from them as he had.

Invaluable.com shows lot 51 at $3250, but may not be correct.

Lancaster, thank you for posting the pics. of the Remo. I have a modest collection of Mauser shotguns that started many years ago when father bought me a Geha. I now have the original Geha and a Remo-Popular take down, an HH, a Remo, a DW?. Still looking for one in 20 gau.. Interesting firearm - every Mauser "nut" should have at least one. --- John

Gentlemen - what would you make of this description of a rifle to be offered at auction here (in NZ), is it an 8x57 improperly described or does the 8.85 mean something else (like the land diameter for 9 mm for instance)??

"8.85H Calibre Mauser Bolt Action Sporting Rifle.
24 5/8" 4-stage round barrel. Ramped foresight.
Open V rear sight with 2 flip up leafs. Marked
"200" and "300". Bore good. German proofs.
Receiver wall marked "Waffenfabrik Mauser-
Oberndorf A/N". Metalwork with approximately
90% finish, thinning on magazine plate and trigger
guard. Double triggers. Very good walnut stock
with a lipped forend and a cheek piece. Chequered
at arc pistol grip. Rubber butt pad. Sling swivels. 2
screws on back of receiver probably for a scope
mount. Overall length 44½". S/N 76981."

Sorry I can't do a picture . . .

Regards Foster

Are these actions built specifically for use as shotgun actions or is the left wall built up somehow for shotgun use?
