Congratulations, Lancaster! Those steel Zeiss Zielvier scopes alone usually go for Euro 200.- to 300.- usually. If you see a problem in removing the soldered on scope mounts, email or phone me.

What a stunner. I have never seen a better looking .416 Rigby. The lines are exquisite. I have a G&H .416 built on the Brevex action in 1982 and also an original pre-war Rigby from about 1918. Both are pictured in old posts somewhere here on the forum. Neither can hold a candle to this rifle.

dont know how this story end, the rifle will go to my gunmaker to avoid any cost and problems with a gun licence. we will see if its necessary to have a export licence to send the bolt alone to new zealand. the future will show if there will be any use for the "rest".

Yes - Lancaster has been very very kind, as have many others on this and other forums, truly the internet has improved our ability to be good to each other.

There is still "some water to pass under the bridge" before I get the bolt but that is all I need from the deal so maybe other people looking of Kurz parts may also benefit from it.

Thanks Lancaster.

Regards
Foster Price.

PS when I was a lad I was staying in the home of some folk I considered a little "rough". At one point the father of the house was having a quiet word with me as we watched the other young people present. He said to me " remember Foster that hospitality is never yours to keep, enjoy it now and later in life pass it on to others". Very wise words and a lesson I have tried to live up too over the ensuing 35 years. Now as my children go out into the world there in not one hitchhiker I regret giving a ride to, or one backpacker (of the many) who have shared our table because I know that my kids just might run into someone who will show them some kindness.

great rifle but belongs more into the Mannlicher Schönauer at auctions
could be a german gunmaker's work or an original hungarian sporting rifle anyway looks very, very desirable!

Kar 88 receiver I'm thinking. I have a similar old girl built in Suhl in 1921. Sweet handling rifle, one of my favorites. So light and handy.

I will never understand what caused German gun makers to alter bolt handles in this hideous way, when they had a perfectly good example of what a flat bolt handle should look like in the Mannlicher Schoenauer and the Mauser Type M. This monstrosity looks to me as though it was simply heated red hot and hammered flat, with no effort made to create graceful lines. Then, in an attempt to hide the crime, a little metal checkering was added. I am equally at a loss as to why the gun buying public found this acceptable.

IMO that´s easy way to make lower bolt handle. And I have to say I like their outlook. The fast loading ability are not allways a issue, depending what kind of hunting you mostly do.

This is definitely a quick and easy (and cheap) way of modifying a bolt. However, from the photos there is no indication that it made the handle any lower. The root of the bolt remains unaltered.

The scope is certainly mounted just as high as it would have been for an unaltered bolt.

Everything about this rifle says "class" from the stock wood, to the stock execution, to the engraving on the action and magazine cover, to the engraved name of the maker and the "Brenneke Hochleistungspatrone Kal. 7X64" marking on the barrel. Everything except the bolt handle, which really deserves the sobriquet "butter knife", since the flattened portion really is thin enough to cut with. Anyone who has used a Mannlicher Schoenauer, a Mauser Type M, or a BRNO 21/22 would immediately notice the difference.

I always thought the spoon handle was for ease of cycling with bulky gloves on in cold weather hunting.
Of course, the set trigger arrangement belies that theory don't it...

I don't object to that kind of bolt handle per se, as long as it looks like this:
