Since the ocular housing of the Oigee scope appears to be integral with the scope tube, it is a mystery to me how the scope rings were installed on the tube, unless, of course, the scope was disassembled and the elevation adjustment drum removed to allow the rear ring to be installed.

This one stayed tantalizingly low, around 700,00 Euros, right up to the last minute, then suddenly shot up to over twice the price. Still a good buy!

Concerning pre WWII scopes the following link may be helpful.
http://www.jagdwaffensammler.de/zielfernrohre.html

Disassembling the scope was common in those days , because the steel tube scopes were soldered to the rings.

yes I was very surprised seeing how it ends.
its rare that such rifles here sell for more than 1000 euro.

spoon handle looks a little bit long but otherwise very slim and very elegant and classic lines on this rifle. I would not hesitate to customize the spoon handle if the rifle was mine. the missing scope with claw mount would be a problem for you americans but not here.

imho, you need a M 88 rifle for the 9mm/M 88 alias 9x57

http://www.bonhams.com/auctions/20804/lot/58/

and a indeed very classic John Rigby & Co., 28 Sackville St., London, W1 in Rigby .275 H.V.

sorry to say scope and scope mount is a personal injury

Can any one enlighten me as to the nature of the scope mount used on the Rigby .275? The rear base appears to be attached to the receiver bridge by some kind of dovetail arrangement, while the front base appears to be mounted on the left side of the receiver. I have a 1903 M/S carbine with plugged holes drilled approximately where this front base would be, and I have never been able to visualize what sort of scope mount would require such holes. (The photograph at the auction site allows significant magnification with no deterioration in quality, so the details of the mount are quite evident.)

I tend to agree, a 88 just seems proper in a 9mm

I would agree again. While a 275 surely can benefit from a optically aiming device, this rather ponderous one is not it. A very simple remediation can be done thou. There price esimate is intriguing, but probably a bit "soft"

I have noticed that estimates on Oberndorf sporters at auction, at least here in the US, have been going up and up.
I guess appreciation of the original Oberndorfs is finally catching up with their quality.
Maybe the high prices on pre-64 Model 70's is pushing Mausers up too.
An example:

"10mm" a 10.75 perhaps ???

With so many "FAKE" pre-64 model 70's anymore, I don't bother with them as to collector, cheap beaters for as is or custom, still possible.

This type of mount is now usually called the "Holland & Holland mount". It is essentially a single-foot claw mount attached to the left side of the receiver. It works the other way around than the usual German claw mount: You first slide the rear foot into it's recess, where it hooks around a pin. then the front foot is swung down and secured by turning a small lever. The rod under the scope is there to keep the rings at the correct distance, even if the scope slips in the rings. H&H introduced this type of mount in the 1920s afaik.
Virtually the same type of scope mount was used several years earlier by by the Austrians on some of their WW1 Mannlicher M95 sniper rifles. The only obvious difference: the Austrians did not use such a "distance rod". As their rings were soldered to the scope tubes, they could not slip and such a rod was unnecessary.
Same question as with the Greifelt and Griffin & Howe single-lever sidemounts: who invented what and who copied a proven design?

very nice rifle and I wonder about the caliber,
10,75x68 would be possible but when asking 6500-8500 $$$ this must be clear

I can't think that it could be anything but a 10.75X68.
Very nice rifle but not going to get into that estimate range I bet.
Rock Island never seems to get the real $$$ for Mausers as it seems like the auction attendees and most of their off site clientele is into the American stuff - Winchesters and Colts etc. They seem to sell the hell out of that stuff!

Very fascinating m98 Mauser for sale in Sweden. Seems to be a bit later "cousin" to my african Mauser:

http://www.walterborg.se/auktion/

KULGEVÄR, Tyskt, cylinderrepeter, fabrikat: Mauser, modell Dalarna, kal. 8x60 Normal, tillvnr. Mycket gott skick.
Utropspris: 10000 - 12000 SEK

"German bolt action rifle, maker: Mauser, model Dalarna, cal. 8x60 Normal nr. 114966, barrel length 70cm, octagon barrel, rear sight from 50-1000 meters, Mauser 1904 type hinged floorplate magazine, 3/4 lenght stock with checkerings, pistol grip and cheek piece, horn butt plate, 14 boxes DWM and 1 box of Norma 8x60 cartridges and timely rifle case and strap included. Very good condition.

Estimate: 10000 - 12000 SEK"
(= ca. 1500-1850 US $ + fees)

I´m quite sure that my own rifle has been bought as new to Sweden too. The serial number is from the last year before I WW. Never ever before heard anything about "Mauser mod. Dalarna"...?

Since the 8X60 cartridge was developed after World War I as a result of the banning of the 8X57 cartridge for civilian use by the Treaty of Versailles, it is most unlikely that this is a pre- World War I rifle. In fact, if I am not mistaken, the use of the term "NORMAL" did not begin until the 1930's.

Yes, correct but the serial number which I comment on belongs to my own 6,5x55 Mauser which you`ll find here: http://forums.nitroexpress.com/showflat.php?Cat=0&Number=210087&an=0&page=1#Post210087

The rifle for sale has been made twenty years later, between 1934-35.
