Banana Republic, excellent images of a brand from the recent past.

Funny culinary combination, claret and prawns.

BTW I wonder if that image isn't a new and recent "historical re-creation" image invoking bygone days.

I think your right John about it been a recent photo. Bottom left hand corner in fine print "2000 British Airways pic". Also I would think if it was a pic from pre 60's there would most likely be a rifle in the pic.

right, 24 years ago such a pic had been possible but without a rifle anymore.

today such a pic is completely "fascist" like a rifle was awkward in 2000.

Has anyone tried wearing long leather boots for hunting?

Ive seen one Englishman showing pictures wearing them a few years ago.

Long leather boots look classicly cool. Probably fine for cooler moderate climates. But look uncomfortable in hot Africa. Maybe not more than normal hiking boots with gaiters. I've never worn a long set of leather boots. Only rubber ones. Long leather boots look a hard tug to get off and on.

If buying some long leather riding boots Argentina would have been an excellent place to source them. Except the exchange rate is a killer.

I also have old leather boots made in France. You can wear them well in our countries, but not in summertime and especially not in Africa. Sure, you look cool and good in it, but they don't have any advantages over rubber boots and you have to take good care of the leather.

Well could have almost died from BA's inflight food so I'm not sure if I'll touch their prawns ....

Flying back from Thailand where I had eaten Thai food almost every mela for three weeks ... without serious stomach upsets .., of course some minor ones, the food in Northern Thailand is very hot. Six or longer hours into the flight, no issues, I ate the chicken inflight meal, no one else near us ate the chicken. Within half an hour I was in the toilet filling a sick bag, and the other end emptying as well. Several times ... The flight was Bangkok to Melbourne but landing in Sydney first. Most got off in Sydney. I wanted to make an official complaint, but the BA staff said if I did they would have to inform Aust quarantine I was sick and I would like be quarantined for several days .... Blackmailing fuckers .... I ended up filling six sick bags and my roars echoed up and down the near empty plane. No exaggeration. In Melbourne I spent the whole time in the toilet and asked for a seat next to the toilet for the flight to Adelaide .... I came close to more but I think I was empty,

In Adelaide it continued for three days. A doctor gave me some injection so water would stay in. Oral medicine was useless. After that and after a few days, fixed, imagine dirty BA food poisoning you on the way to an African safari?

BA inflight meals, it not just tasty prawns and buffalo that might kill you.

Here are my grandfather's gaiters from the twenties, but I have no use for them, despite the fact that they seem to be suitable again snake bites in the lower legs.

were they allways well greased? leather that became to dry will never recover again whatever you do. unfortunately a lot of old leather gear became useless over times this way. if you don't move it will look ok but break when coming back in use.

I don't know if this gaiters were allways well greased and I don't know how old they really are. I have a photo of my grandfather from 1921 and he was already wearing it.

The Asian foods tend to be spicy hot as that kills off a lot of the stomach bugs, so I am told. Seems to work. On flights I avoid chicken and fish meals for those reasons. Years ago I had a mate who went through similar to John, so I learned from his mistake.

Similar to a pair of snake gaiters I made many years ago.

My grandfather's gaiters were often seen in very old photos and were worn by many people, especially horseman in the WWI. I have also seen pictures of Turkish officers in the WWI wearing the same ones. By the way, my grandfather fought in the WWI in the Balkans and the Dardanelles, but I don't believe with this gaiters. These gaiters must have been in service very often because you can still buy used ones in Germany.

I love the artwork over this door arch. I wonder where and what building this i?

Giraffe house Zoological Garden in Berlin, probably restored or new made after old pics if destroyed in WW 2 by Villeroy & Boch in 1986. could be the firm also that had made the original before the great war.
notice three are scimitar oryx but one is a addax antelope!

from a time when people understand how to build good looking houses also for animals.

How true.
