.360 No. 2 Nitro Express anyone?

Just daydreaming about having a custom single built, likely on the ubiquitous Ruger No. 1 action. Re-reading John Taylor and leafing through the British Sporting Cartridges chapter of "Caartridges of the World" I seem to have lit upon this grand old Eley number, circa 1905. It shows a 320 grain .367 bullet at 2200, frankly not a whole lot more poop than a hot-loaded 9,3X74R. But damn, that's a beautiful cartridge, and Taylor had lots of good things to say about its performance in Africa.
Anyone have a rifle in this chambering? Love to hear your thoughts and experiences.

I do, a WW Greener double.
One of my favorite cartridges. That 320gr bullet has great sectional density and will plough through just about anything at that speed.
This has been kicked around here before and personally, I think it is a great idea!
The simple route would be a rechamber of a No.1 in 9.3X74 but their barrels are a bit short.

There is an original Gibbs Farquharson in Canada in 360No.2 which I fear will have to become mine some day... So somebody should just buy it to prevent that from happening!

Good load, good calibre and matches a middle to moderate pressure load for a 9.3x62. In a #1, that could easily be improved upon, but then, that's what a .375H&H does. At anywhere form 2,200fps to 2,450fps, it would be fun to shoot and use to hunt something large and hairy.

Huvius, I had the same thought, and was dissuaded by the damnably short barrels Ruger insists on putting on its No. 1s. So it would need to be a rebarrel, and then there is the matter of a reamer. Doubt many exist. Have you been happy with Bertram brass, or are you forming from something else?
Daryl, exactly so. Seems Eley had the original .375 on its hands until H&H barged in seven years later and spoilt the party.

I see that Dave Kiff at Pacific Tool and Gauge lists a reamer in the caliber for $147. Dave is just 20 miles from here. Hmmm ...

I know someone with a reamer but I forget if it is shaped like my chamber or not.
I have been happy with Bertram brass as long as you anneal it before fire forming. They have held up pretty well although I have at most three reloadings on them.
I posted on my annealing and forming of these cases a while back.
Do a search on "360No.2" and it should pop up.

Bill, I have a number of Dave Kiff's reamers - all have been perfect. I'd get some brass first, THEN order the reamer to match the brass. At times, there are enough changes in brass, company to company, to make a chamber too tight, or less often, too loose. Used to be that $147.00 charge was for a custom reamer or a piloted reamer.

If you decide to get a reamer made from a fired case I can send you one fired in my Greener.
It is a 1908 gun so probably pretty close to the original specs. All I know is the Bertram brass is nowhere close to any 360No.2 chamber I have ever seen.

Huvius, I appreciate that offer. How does the Bertram tend to differ from the chambers you have encountered?

Just found your thread on fireforming the Bertram with the shoulder so far back.
Wonder if the Jamison successor, Captech, will do some brass.
