The Lyman 35 sight on that rifle should be worth $500 or more if it's complete and in good shape.

I thought for salvage of the pieces it would be worth the 720.00 asking price.
Where the "U.S. 1906" there own sized receiver ???

The $720 is not the "asking price". It is only the initial bid in a "No Reserve" auction. Considering the rifle is totally without collector's value, except perhaps for parts, I would not expect the bidding to go too high, were it not for the factor of the Lyman 35 receiver sight. I have the same model rifle, unfortunately drilled and tapped for a side mount when I obtained it, and the bolt had been modified for a low scope. It now has a G&H side mount and is a fine little hunting rifle.

Caprivi: Mauser used their standard length action for the 30-06 round, but had the unique feature of a notch in the top of the ring to allow the bullet to clear when loading from a stripper clip. This same feature was also used with the .318 Westley Richards round.

xausa, "asking price" was just my nimble typing, I am aware of the auction function, many hundreds of them in a past life. I agree in that the bidding will not wander far, if at all from the "starting price"....:):):)
I like yours much better as with this one, as I would hate to be the bastard to be first to drill and tap the receiver for scope mounting....... ....maybe braze mounts on the bridge and a barrel collar ????
dons, thanks for the verification. I thought I remembered reading there was a difference but was not sure what it was.

Thanks Roscoe, great tool to have available thru the forum.
Will remind me to bid once in awhile :):) I like the Model B. Very workmen like, actually I like xausa's rifle better as someone has already desecrated it with the sidemount. I would want a .30-06 to be scoped.........

I was the runner up bidder. That one still hurts. Still looking for my first Oberndorf sporter but now my funds have gone elsewhere. I thought this rifle would be a great start but was at work when the final bidding took place. I should have put a higher max-bid on it but I let is slip away. The 98K non-matching bolt and non-pristine bore were the down-sides while the Lyman sight and the factory rear tangent sight were nice.
