IMO, that is an excellent gun for the money. Very tempting...U
The takedown is by rotating the lever at the front of the floorplate then the barreled action can be lifted from the stock.
The trigger guard and floorplate remain with the stock.
See the piece behind the top tang of the action? It is fastened by the rear screw behind the trigger guard and the action tang hooks into it. I think it is a similar idea to a hooked breech on a muzzle loader.

At least I think that is how it works...

Wonder if it really is an 8mm Mauser.

Very attractive rifle. I like the checkering, forend treatment, sights, and the floorplate release. The wood, not so much. Morris Hallowell had a similar Fraser bolt rifle a while back in an unusual caliber (i think it was .360 2 1/4 inch) which didn't last long at $10k plus. It had the same beautiful lines as this rifle but better, darker wood.

Daniel Fraser & Co. went out of business in the 30's. This rifle just doesn't look that old. If it's genuine, it's a steal. This Cabelas also has a new looking Alex Martin bolt gun for cheap money...hmmmm.

.......... all cool discussion, I have heard of them in 7.65arg, 303 british, 303 Fraser, 7x57, 360 2 1/4", 375 2 1/2", 375H&H .............. Never a 8x57mm. Doesn't mean it isn't as I know very little. I figured for the price, I could care less than a little about the chambering.

Style wise this looks of a modern-ish-ly scoped .375H&H that has been "around" the market for sometime. Rumour mill has it that the .375H&H in mention was built under the "Fraser" name by H&H in the 1950's ........ Would/could this 8mm be of similar parentage ?????

In the late 60's, John Dickson & Son acquired the Daniel Fraser & Alex Martin company names and may have had rifles reproduced at that time. They are now Dickson & MacNaughton.

That must be a much later Fraser. Almost everything about it is different from the ones made when Daniel Fraser himself was still alive, and for a short period thereafter.

Those rifles are in a class of their own.

Thanks pjaln,I felt that it wasn't a 1900 era rifle,I also thought the take down feature and sights made for an interesting rifle for the price.I'm not going to play their game...thanks anyway.

Surely no Scotsman would put his front sight on "bass ackwards" like a Westley Richards! This is most certainly a post-Alex Martin purchase of Fraser. Several of these Fraser's seem to have surfaced recently. I've never seen a pre-Alex Martin Fraser magazine rifle built on anything other than a 93 Mauser (except for Dutch Mannlichers and Mannlicher Schoenauers). Also, all of the take-downs I have examined made use of the Deeley latch, a separate forend, and a set screw on the left side of the front receiver ring to disassemble the barrel. I've included my picture of a Holland & Holland magazine rifle disassembled that better shows the mechanism that Huvius describes.

There's really no practical reason for the Fraser/Henry style forend. It was just a house style that differentiated Henry's rifles from a sea of others (and later those of Fraser's). I absolutely love it though!

Still, for the money it's a cool rifle. I certainly wouldn't build a Fraser take-down for a customer for anything in the same ballpark!

Does anybody know who ended up with this rifle?
I desperately need close up photos of the forend pin.
I have a Fraser that uses the same take-apart system but missing the pin. (See recent post in this category)
