1903 Springfield Mauser ideas
      #217856 - 11/10/12 09:25 PM

Hi fellas,

I have the above mentioned rifle that I believe to be a Mark 1 as it has a cutout in the middle of the bridge for the "Pederson" device. I'm thinking of a build for this rifle and want to retain the original bolt handle and wing safety so the use of open or peep sights will be required.

First thoughts were a 500 Jeffery but will require a bit more work than I'm probably prepared to go with at the moment....

Any thoughts without going over the top?????

Cheers,
Mark.

Ok, so I need to change the heading to not include Springfield and Mauser in the same sentence

John, where is the erase/edit button??

Cheers,
Mark.

A good idea ! Mauser und Springfield are not friends ! For the production of the M1903 the U.S. Governement had to pay royalties to the Mauser-Werke !

That's only the tip of the iceberg mate ,think of all the royalties they would have to pay for aspirin and the 1001 other products and idea's they stole / looted after WW1 and WW2. Not many people know Fanta was an original German product and name ,I don't think Coca cola paid any royalties for that one either. Most of these things went to a country that aggressively tries to enforce intellectual property rights on the rest of the world , ironic isn't it.

Just think, those that believe that "War never settled anything" obviously never considered these compelling examples.

I personally do not think I would barrel up a Springfield in anything larger than an '06 case - calibre would/could be anything up to and including .375.

How much action work for the Jeffery case?

The best for a 500 Jeffery is a Mauser Magnum action .
