Double Only Hunt
      #217422 - 01/10/12 02:11 PM

Even though I wanted to use my new Rigby, Pato called a double only hunt Sunday. A good early rainstorm left us with a cool day and damp underfoot so even Pato could track.
Caught this good boar just as he finished a morning dip. Rifle is a beautiful little Raick Frerez double in 450/400

Mixed mob of buffalo at first light. Ordinary photo but there is a white cow in the shot. Several of her offspring were noticeable from there pie bald markings

Patos bull from earlier post. If you look closely you can see the haze above the bulls head from impact. Also hooves digging into ground and rear off leg raised as slug catches the bull in the skull.

Mixed mob encountered near a permanent water source

Pato and my son with a dingo taken with his Coggswell and Harrison .475 Nitro. Nice shot! Unlucky dog?

Some shots of a young bull encountered while Pato went looking for pigs. He was very curious and hung around my son and I for a good twenty minutes at no more than 20 yards distance. Hope he grows to reach his potential.

Another bull I disturbed while he was having a mud bath. I approached him to around 30 yards and he just stood looking.

The wind changed and i saw his nostrils widen. He then decided a closer look may be in order and he made his way towards me. With no real menace on show i kept taking photos.

He then saw Pato and my youngen over the creek, took this look and departed.

Scrub bulls were also encountered.

Great photos.

It's good when they get inquisitive like that.

That bull that just got out of the wallow,
he looks like he was getting interested !!!

Great dingo and shot, put a hole in exactly the same place with my 500 / 465 on a dingo.

It was just an all around good day. Saw lots of animals and love shooting those doubles.

Great, great photo - not many from this angle around - this is how they are "incoming" (at least one in Zim did) and shows exactly why/where "on the top of the nose" shot is suppose to go! I'll save that one (if permitted) to imprint it in my memory thoroughly further on for the future use.

At that angle, unless you are using a solid,
I would probably go for the white spot.

He's in inquisitive mode IMHO. Most charges I've seen the head it down which helps.

Thanks 93mouse
Definitely wasn't a charge. He just wanted a closer look. I can email you the photo and a few others taken when he departed if you like. They often come up for a look like this.

Claydog - in 2006 I had to shoot a Cape Buffalo in Zim that was charging at 13 paces and that was exactly the picture I had when I pulled the trigger.

Thanks for offer - if I may i will just save the pic to my comp - should do the trick - thank you.
