Yes - tragic - I read the article about the Vietnam elephants. Between the lines, it told me the VC are doing the killing and selling or giving the ivory to their Chinese masters.

Chinese sought elephant kills and their use of ivory pales in comparison to the treatment of their caged 'bile' bears.

Not surprised if there is a massive kill off of elephants, as the Chinese are becoming the new "colonial power" in Africa and many other parts of the third world.

Ivory and rhino horn has always been exported to China, illegally, and now with their penetration into Africa, it is not surprising that poaching has skyrocketed.

Nothing new about Chinese penetration into Africa. When I was in Tanzania in 1972, the Chinese were building a railway across the country. What's new is a whole spate of wealthy Chinese who are willing to pay whatever it takes to get what they want, just like the Arabs in Yemen and their demand for rhino horn dagger hilts.

There is a surge in elephant poaching here in East Africa, which strangely coincides with a surge in road projects, electrification projects, dams, etc. run by Chinese companies. And whenever poachers are caught, their clients are Chinese...
