Huge Buff
      #214658 - 15/08/12 03:15 PM

This image was sent to me with out any information from one of the guys I came down there hunting with.

Does anyone have any information about the big honker of a buff?? This makes ours look like little calves.

Very nice in size, not sure I like the shape of the horns
but who's complaining !!!

Could well be a Bullock or whatever they call it.

I was wondering if it might be a 'cut' steer also. I don't know if that's let the horns grow big like it does with the body though.

Not sure if people actually cut them now but it depends on where it was shot.

Not that many Buff get rounded up now and those that do are shipped off for live export.

Could just be Natural.

Remember their was a HUGE one in the Woodleigh Catalogue
a few years ago shot with one of the Sponsors on here - Graham ???? Williams from WA.

Anyway, I am sure we will hear the full story soon.

PS - I thought it might also be a cow but just looks that little bit big.

I've never seen one, but I have seen pictures of similar genetics in photos of working buffalo at the Chinese temple museum in Darwin.

Chapuis

Yes, I found his web site and checked and as you found, nothing.

I have a smaller version of those long thin horns
and mine was a Bullock / Steer or whatever you want
to call it.

I 'll have to find the Woodleigh Catalogue unless it is on there web site.

Wonder how big the buff would actually look, if those fellows weren't 3 feet behind it & the picture taken from just in front of it's nose.

It has very long, weird shaped horns, yes - but - to me it's head seems small looking compared to the neck and body that we can see, not knobby, knotty & old looking like others I've seen posted here.

Daryl

Disagree with you there.

I reckon the head is big and the neck typically huge
as it should be at that age - neck / shoulders become one !

Lack of marks on horns / scarring - probably doesn't get into many fights if it has no balls !!!!

Also, animals like that have to run though the scrub with the head sideways - based on what I was told another huge Buff did up NT way when she used to run through a paperbark swamp.

It'd be interesting to know where it came from, too (Arnhemland or a station).

I don't recognise anyone, are they 3 hunters or is one a PH ?

If someone can give me the name of the PH, that would help.

500Nitro - could be, maybe it is a big bull, but I'd still like to see a picture of that buffalo, with a hunter at it's head, or taken from the side - but without the picture taken from a position to make the animal artificially larger.

I was hoping that someone here would recognise someone in the photo so we could learn some about this big beast.
The pic came from France to one of the guys i went there with on our June hunt.

I would guess that is a balless buffalo, a buffalo steer. But don't know.

I thought the guy on the right looks like Graham Williams but on blowing up the photo, not so sure. It is grainy when enlarged though.

PH is Graham Williams of Australian Buffalo Hunters. Taken July 2012 by a client. I doubt very much it was a station hunt. I am told it is roughly 83" wide.

I'll tell Graham about this topic and he may post more info, better it be from the horses mouth, but it may take some time as he may well be hunting in a remote area with no internet access.

I had an email from Graham a day or two ago, and we will probably talk on the phone soon. He mentioned a large buffalo but I am confused whether it was recent or some time ago.

If anyone talks to Graham, I am pretty sure he also shot another very large one a few years back (ended up on the cover of the Woodleigh Catalogue - it has straight out thin horns.

Would be interested to hear what the other one measured
compared to this.
