375-2/1/2 Barrel Profile
      #212888 - 17/07/12 09:44 AM

I am thinking of re-creating a Lee Speed 375-2/12 on a No1 MLE action. Could someone give me an idea of the profile of the original .375 barrel? Were the external dimensions the same as the .303?
Thanks

I will be able to help, but it may be tomorrow before I can get back with answers.
Stay tuned.

Yeah - I'm intersted as well, Tinker. I've a #3 in pretty good shape and is just sitting in the lockup, a stocked action.

I also have a couple #4's that could be doner actions, however the .311 Express on one still has me interested somewhat. A 174gr. at 2,960fps is rather exciting in the old girl. I'm sure it will make just over 2,900 with some Norma 180 BT's I have for testing. Then, the other #4 is a GREAT condition 5 groove in .303 - decisions, decisions.

Yes - I need that infor for the #3, too! HA!.

What I have here is a proper, original Lee Speed Sporter .375 Express in no.1 pattern including full rib and express sights etc.

25" barrel
Muzzle diameter is .657"
Diameter at horn forend tip is .739"
15-3/4" from muzzle to forend tip.
It's a straight taper from muzzle back about 20"

That's a start.
I can do photos and more detail from action ring forward another time, too busy today for that.

Hope this helps, stay tuned for more info.

Cheers

Thanks, Tinker, this does help a lot. Sometime when you have a moment could you put a caliper just ahead of the Knox form and take a reading? I'll keep you up to date once the project gets underway

TKS Tinker. About a #2 taper and 25" pretty much fits my idea of what the barrel should be.

Tinker could you post a photo of a 375 magazine and a 303 magazine to show the difference in shape and also the feed lips if they are at all different. I'm building one at the moment , I have the barrel chambered and threaded ,an MLE action and some original Lee Speed wood .Sights and the magazine are still being looked into so any information will be appreciated.

cheers
Pete

For sights, have you looked at the Mk10 Mauser leaf sights at SAARCO?

I have seen those sights but alas Sarco won't send anything to Australia anymore ,so much for the free trade agreement.

Yeah - we're supposed to have that free trade agreement as well - that's some free trade.
