Waffenfabrik Mauser Oberndorf .275 Rigby

This is my Waffenfabrik Mauser .275 Rigby that I built many moons ago. Originally a 30 US Mauser.I fitted a Lothar Walther Mauser "A" model duplicate special order barrel chambered for .275 Rigby.The stock was a fancy Walnut 95% inletted blank "Rigby duplicate" supplied by Mike Kokolus and finished and checkered by myself.The express sights were originally regulated for 140 Grain spitzers at 2,900 fps but the 200 yard leaf works perfectly with 173 loadings.This rifle has seen action on 2 continents and taken many animals with 100% success ;truely a wonderfully accurate reliable rifle and if you are supersticious a lucky one also.The scope is a Nickel supra 4x36 and the optiks are flawless.

Looks very nice! But it seems that you have a sniper safety wing on it ? Maybe the original 3 -position safety with Greener -side safety -combination suits better to yours rifle fine classic style ?
And the trigger guard....do it need some works ?

Hello - A very nice "using" rifle in a wonderfully practical calibre, I'm more than a bit envious of that stock . . .

Is your action the intermediate lenght that many of the Rigby 275's were built on ?? I believe Mr Kokolus has "passed to the other side" but I would be very interested to know if he did in fact make up an "intermediate" pattern.

Mike was a longtime friend and also a fellow US Marine and he will be missed.My action was originally for a 30-06 length cartridge;it even has the little notch cut out on the back end of the receiver ring for the point of a 30-06 round when using stripper clips to load.All of Mikes blanks and his Hoenig stock duplicator were sold to another fellow and I have his number here somewhere (Wilson??)Yes this rifle was always intended as a "working " rifle(as Mausers were intended to be) but the stock ,the rust blueing ,the express sights and the checkering all turned out so well that it always gets a lot of attention when on a hunting trip or at the range . I will post more pictures shortly.

Thanks.When I first purchased the rifle the floorplate had a lever to open it.I hated it as when you carry a rifle for up to 20 miles a day this is an annoying thing so I converted it back to a standard floorplate.The sniper extended safety was on the rifle when I got it .I like it as you can use it easily when you have gloves on and it is conveniant for bolt dissassembly with the scope in place.Also it would be bad luck to change it now as the rifle has always performed well.It is a unique as well as it is an outstanding rifle.

When talking about trigger guard I just mean that yours is a military version. IMO such a nice rifle deserves better looking civil version and a push-button bottom opener.

Here is one civil version of sniper safety and trigger guard.

By the way, did you still have the magazine bottom opener lever ?

Yes I see what you mean.That button would not interfere with the carrying of the rifle at all.I have never had a problem with useing a bullet point to open up the magazine though.You know I disliked that damn thing so much I threw it away ....a Waffenfabrik Mauser lever magazine release duh.

I had a button release put on the military floor plate for my 404 (and my 7x57)and it is a simple yet very effective release option.

My floorplate was on a hinge and when the lever turned it would swing open .To get rid of the lever I had to change the inside mechanism back to the original inside button release.It still swings open but you have to push a cartridge point in pretty good to get it.Nice job on the button release...I like it.

Lovely rifle! The Rigby inspired stock profile is particularly nice.
