Robert Christian shot this massive black bear in eastern Pennsylvania. The bruin's skull scored 23 9/16 inches, making it the biggest bear ever taken by a hunter. Gayne Young breaks the story on this potential world record..

Nice black bear - 23 9/16" - WOW - I haven't seen a black bear skull even close to that. Our 7 footer went only 20 1/2".

Nice to see a 'real' picture for a change without the shooter being 20feet behind it just to make it look bigger.

They shoot some really large Black Bears here in Pennsylvania. The bear in the article weighed over 730 pounds...heavier than most inland Grizzlies I believe.

Agree--as to the griz here in Montana---that is as big as most you would find in this neck of the woods..

Every year about a dozen black bear are taken here that will go over 500 pounds. Most are in the 150 to 250 pound range.
