Man risks life to feed croc on camera

A cameraman has risked his life — and his video camera — on a Northern Territory beach to get the ultimate close-up crocodile footage.

Brisbane resident Nik Lachajczak was finishing a day's work on a shoot in East Arnhem Land when the eyes of a partially exposed crocodile caught his gaze.

"It was that classical crocodile shot," Mr Lachajczak told ninemsn.

"We just saw its eyes above the water and said 'that's a croc'."

He said he had previously seen locals throwing coconuts for the crocodiles and made a spur of the moment decision to try and lure the reptile to the beach and feed it on camera.

Having already swum in the croc-populated waters he felt that getting so close to the animals was a risk but one he was willing to take.

"We're pretty loose," Mr Lachajczak said.

"It just started hanging around the beach and we started throwing scraps at it."

He said he was lucky enough to be with a man who "was a bit of a croc caller" and he eventually managed to attract the predator to the beach by slapping the water and making noise.

Eventually the crocodile slowly emerged from the water and chomped on a piece of meat before knocking over Mr Lachajcazk's camera which was recording the scene.

The thrill seeker said he wasn't scared when the croc got close enough to bite him and found the entire experience "exhilarating", adding that he would do it again.

While the short clip has received a positive reception from online viewers, the main reaction by Mr Lachajczak's friends and family has been disbelief.

G'Day Fella's,

I think the title should read; "Idiot risks others life to feed croc on camera"!
Now Salty might think this is a great spot for an easy "Snak"!
So he may just hang around and end up with one of the locals!!!

What a TA (that's TA for Temporary Australian)!

Doh!

We had a American that like this who lived with the bears in Alaska... Notice I said,"we had", past tense.

Cant see too much risk there really, lucky it didn't crunch his camera though.
Not a good idea to be feeding it at a populated spot though, I see there was some biuldings at the top of the beach so the poor old croc will probably get a bullet soon when it expects its next feed and gets a bit too cheeky.

We feed a BIG Croc up north, normally throwing in Geese and such for it to eat. Anyway, one year, (i wans't there) but someone was taking photos of it close to the water.

The croc launched itself at a goose that was on the bank and the bloke shit himself, trying to scramble up the slippery bank.

I believe his legs were going like the Road Runner in that cartoon, the problem was the bank was muddy so he wasn't getting far !!! LOL
Has a photo of the croc in mid air just as it side swiped a tree. Of course the photo is a bit blurred !!!

The tree had a fair dent in it and missing bark from where the croc hit it.

It's that easy to be a "had" past tense person up there.
